Education Week

Yesterday during our Open Morning, students and teachers warmly welcomed families and friends into classrooms across the school. Specialist teachers showcased their programs, while classroom teachers opened their literacy blocks for families to observe learning in action. It was wonderful to share the purposeful and explicit teaching practices that support our students to become confident readers, writers and communicators, as well as to highlight the rich learning experiences offered through our specialist programs.

From developing phonics knowledge and reading fluency in the early years to building comprehension, vocabulary and writing skills in the senior years, students were engaged, focused and enthusiastic learners. In Foundation and Grades 1–2, students used whiteboards to respond quickly to questions and proudly “chinned it” so their teachers could immediately check for understanding. In Grades 3–6, students have been digging their teeth into rich texts with complex vocabulary, concepts and writing styles, with teachers carefully unpacking these texts alongside the class.

Students gained a real buzz from having families present and were excited to share their learning. We would like to thank all the families and friends who attended and helped make the morning such a positive and successful experience.
