Principal's Message
Yellow Park Welcome to Country
It was brilliant to have so many community members at school last Friday afternoon to join the Welcome to Country ceremony for our new Yellow Park playground and garden. Hearing Uncle Colin speak about his personal history and connection to country was such a valuable cultural and educational experience for all who were present. I am also very proud of our student RAP team members who introduced him so beautifully.
The funding for the new garden was provided by a Juniour Landcare Biodiversity grant, which our grounds sub-committee successfully applied for in 2025. You will have seen the many trees, shrubs and grasses that have been planted over the last few years. Thank you to this group, and to all who have supported at working bees to continually improve our grounds for our students.
IDAHOBIT DAY
A big shout out to our student Inclusion Action Team and the teachers that support them, for organising a brilliant IDAHOBIT day on Monday. At BNPS we are committed to ensuring all students know they belong. One of the ways we achieve this is to ensure we have a safe and inclusive culture where every single person in our school community feels safe, welcome, and valued — no matter who they are or what their family looks like. It helps us celebrate the idea that our differences make us stronger, and encourages us all to be kind, speak up if we see someone being treated unfairly, and look out for one another. When we take time to recognise this day together, we send a powerful message to every student, family, and staff member: you belong here, and you matter.
Dogs at school
At BNPS we welcome dogs walking to school with families and being in our yard before and after school. We know this can be a positive experience for students and families, and a great source of exercise for much loved pets.
We do ask that if dogs are on-site that a few guidelines are followed:
- pet dogs are not brought to school on designated Wellbeing Dog Program days. Currently, our wellbeing dog Sailor is onsite on Mondays and Wednesdays
- pet dogs must be leashed at all times and in the control of a responsible adult
- pet dogs must not be tied up on school grounds or left unaccompanied
- families that bring dogs to school that exhibit signs of aggressive behaviour, bark, or jump may be asked to remove the dog from school premises.

SWPBS Whole School Acknowledgement
Congratulations to all our students for achieving our goal of 500 tokens for showing a growth mindset! Over the last few months our teachers have been explicitly teaching and acknowledging how a growth mindset can assist us in our learning and play. We have been practising embracing the struggle of new learning, knowing that if we persist in our efforts we can achieve our goals. Embracing a growth mindset is one of the ways we show our value of courage at BNPS.
Our SWPBS student leaders have worked with students to identify the whole school reward - a pyjama day this coming Monday May 25! Congratulations to all!
Reminder Student Free Day this Friday
A reminder that this coming Friday is a student free day. Staff will be engaging in professional learning focussing on student wellbeing. Specifically, they will be working with professor Lea Waters from the University of Melbourne, who is assisting us in implementing the Visible Wellbeing positive psychology framework in our school.
