Anzac Day Commemoration Services - Aged Care Homes

Last week’s student visits to four Aged Care homes in Warragul to lead Anzac Day commemoration services was an emotionally moving experience for our students, staff involved as well as the residents being visited. The short service at each home was followed by some brief opportunity for conversation and to hear from our older and wiser community members how Australia’s conflicts have affected them and their families.

These opportunities for encounter align with the Foundational Beliefs of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion, whose name we so proudly wear on our uniforms and in our name.

“Dialogue” is at the heart of those Foundational Beliefs. The Order’s Constitution – established in the mid-19th century states “we want to be present and concerned with our world. We welcome all who come and we are enriched and challenged by these encounters”.

The Aged Care home visits certainly enriched and challenged our students – the smiles and buzz of conversation suggested the feeling was mutual!

Holy Week Liturgy

Our Holy Week Liturgy at the end of Term 1 brought our whole college community together to mark the events of Holy Week and Easter. Led by the sombre movements of our student actors Roy, Sienna, Sophie and Ashleigh, we made our way through the events of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Our Liturgy finished with the death of Jesus on the Cross, and we were reminded to consider over Easter the meaning of the resurrection, and to live as people of hope!

Project Compassion

Student voice was the driving force behind two very successful fundraisers at the end of Term 1. Working to support Project Compassion and its work with impoverished communities around the world, our Mission Captains Maisy and Will initiated a student Easter Raffle and a college Footy Tipping competition. Thanks to all who have participated in these initiatives. Maisy’s legwork in approaching local businesses to donate prizes, and William’s ongoing work in managing the fiercely competitive Footy Tipping competition is to be commended.

Year 12 Retreat

Year 12 Retreat was one of the highlights of the year. Led by the Passionist Youth Team, our Year 12s spent two days at Phillip Island reflecting on relationship with self, others and God. Our senior students continue to carry themselves with maturity and depth of character as role models in our school, and their participation on Retreat was greatly valued by staff present.
