Year 9 Science: Brain Caps

Year 9 Science students have been exploring the human brain through a creative, hands‑on activity - designing their own ‘brain caps’. As they constructed their models, students identified key parts of the brain, learned their functions, and developed a deeper understanding of the nervous system. This engaging approach helped bring complex scientific concepts to life and made learning both meaningful and memorable.

Year 9 Science Enrichment: Crime Scene Investigation

Year 9 students in Science Enrichment recently took part in an exciting crime scene investigation, stepping into the role of forensic scientists to analyse a simulated scenario and determine what had occurred.

Drawing on skills developed throughout the course, students carefully gathered evidence, searched for clues and applied logical reasoning to piece together their findings and reach well‑supported conclusions. This hands‑on experience encouraged students to think critically, solve problems and collaborate effectively as a team - key skills that are essential across a wide range of future pathways, including science, health, law, research and investigative careers.

Science Enrichment is a unique elective designed for students with a strong interest in science who are keen to explore learning beyond the standard curriculum. With engaging units such as forensics, food science and life differences, lessons are inquiry‑based and highly practical. Students document their learning through digital portfolios, with classwork contributing 50% of their assessment - an approach students report they particularly enjoy.
