Extra-Curricular Fun!
This edition, I really just wanted to highlight some of the great extra-curricular activities that are on offer at the college, and encourage families to get involved.
Instrumental Music Making Notes of Their Own
Instrumental music has really jumped forward this term, with our new percussion tutor (Joe Vizzone) joining our team and bringing a wealth of experience that would be hard to rival anywhere in Australia. Joe is getting a percussion ensemble up and running, in addition to whipping our drummers into rhythmic maestros.
Additionally, last term our concert band students took part in a workshop that saw them developing melodic ideas for a piece of music to commemorate our 20 year celebration, which a composer has taken away and arranged for our full concert band. We now have that piece of music back, and are very excited to rehearse it and perform for our school community soon!
Drama Club Has Made an ‘Entrance’ at St Stephen’s!
Starting last term, our Arts and LOTE department has introduced a weekly lunchtime Drama Club, held every Wednesday during Recess 1 in the Drama Room.
Sessions include a range of engaging activities such as drama games, improvisation and script work, offering students a creative and supportive space to explore performance.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to get involved in a fun and productive lunchtime activity. Students are welcome to bring their lunch along to enjoy during the session.
Excitingly, we will be hosting a lunchtime performance in Week 10 to showcase the skills and talents of our performers.
All students are welcome. Participation in Drama Club provides valuable opportunities for students to build confidence, develop creativity and collaborate with their peers in a positive environment.
We look forward to seeing many students take part in this engaging and rewarding experience.
French Club are Rehearsing Lines en Français
French Club has kicked off (Recess 1 on Tuesdays), and students are rehearsing an amusing little French play, and enjoying engaging in French culture under the tutelage of
Madame Surdu. Students with an interest in languages are encouraged to come along and show our community they are “très dramatic!”
Una Voce – One Voice, but Many Harmonies
Our vocal group, Una Voce, recently performed a beautiful performance at Anzac Day, and are looking forward to competing in the Cairns Eisteddfod in Week 10. They will be performing in 3 categories, and have been rehearsing hard, which has really raised the excitement they have to compete.
Dance Crew Putting Their Best Foot Forward
Our dance crew is also working hard in the lead up to the Eisteddfod at the end of term. Rehearsing multiple times a week, and with brand new modern costumes, they are super keen to express themselves to the broader community.
Kind regards
Mr Tyson Manley | Middle Leader Arts and LOTE
