Exploring Opportunities
Year 10 students attending the Cairns Manufacturing Hub “Manufacture Your Career” breakfast event in April benefited from hearing from employers and apprentices working in manufacturing related jobs. Attending and exploring events such as these is a proven way to broaden your knowledge and understanding of jobs and careers and hear first-hand what is expected when looking for work in a particular sector. We are fortunate to have opportunities like this which was sponsored by Cairns Manufacturing Hub and Business Liaison Association of Cairns.

Speaking of Cairns Manufacturing Hub – Mareeba event 23rd June 2026

Students in Years 11 and 12 have the opportunity to express interest in attending an information session organised by the Cairns Manufacturing Hub in conjunction with St Stephen’s Catholic College and Mareeba State High School. This time, students will have the opportunity to listen to and ask questions of local and Tableland-based manufacturing businesses and employers. Students have been emailed a link for the Expression of Interest form. This event is planned for Tuesday 23rd June from 10am – 11:30am at the Mareeba Leagues Club. This is a free event.

JCU Heroes in Health Program
Six Senior students have been offered spots in this year’s Heroes In Health program being held in Cairns from 26th – 27th June 2026. JCU’s Heroes Programs offer students the chance to attend programs throughout the school year to gain practical skills and real career experience. To help with future goals, JCU Advisors are always on hand to provide information about JCU and the courses of interest to students. JCU’s Heroes Programs are open to all year 11 and 12 students and give them behind the scenes access into what their dream career may look like. JCU works with their industry partners including the Mater Hospital, North West Hospital and Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, Glencore, Daintree Rainforest Observatory, Queensland Country Bank and the North Queensland Cowboys to give students the chance to meet the experts and experience a day in their lives. Check out the link above for the Heroes Programs and look for the link to expressing interest in their 2027 programs.
2026 Cairns Careers Expo

All Year 10 students are once again being given the opportunity to attend this year’s Cairns Careers Expo at the Fred Moule Pavillion in Cairns. This high-profile event is held at the Cairns Showgrounds on Thursday, 4th June 2026. While groups of students attend between 8:30am and 1:00pm, members of the public are encouraged to attend between 1:00pm and 3.30pm to make the most of their time without having to compete with over 1,000 students at any one time. The expo attracts over 5000 attendees on the day and brings together a vast range of education and career providers to assist and inspire the community and high school students with their career decision-making. Exhibitors include a large cross-section of vocational providers, apprenticeship and traineeship providers, strong industry representation, and tertiary/university institutions, all available to answer your questions. This Expo is the only event of its kind in Far North Queensland. Checkout the 2026 Cairns Careers Expo link for a list of sponsors and exhibitors. View this link for the 2025 promotional video.
