This edition's student voice article is by Year 12 student Miret Fourie, who played the Toymaker in our recent Launceston Christian School musical.

Being involved in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was one of the most rewarding experiences of my school life. Not only was it an opportunity to perform on stage, but it also helped me to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and communication skills that I will carry with me long after the final curtain call.

One of the greatest benefits of being involved in a school production is the sense of community it creates. Students from different year levels worked together towards a common goal, supporting each other through rehearsals, performances and challenges. Whether it was helping with costumes, learning choreography, managing nerves backstage or encouraging one another before going on stage, everyone played an important role in making the production a success.

Personally, I learnt the importance of perseverance. There were times when learning lines, choreography and character work felt challenging, but through practice and determination I became more confident in my abilities. The experience also taught me how valuable feedback can be. By listening to teachers and peers, I was able to improve my performance and grow as a performer.

For future students considering being involved in a production, I would strongly encourage them to give it a go. Musical theatre is about much more than acting, singing and dancing. It teaches responsibility, commitment, collaboration and confidence. It provides opportunities to make new friendships, discover strengths you may not know you have, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Looking back, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was not just a musical, it was an experience that brought our school community together and helped many students, including myself, to grow both on and off the stage.
