Performing Arts

This term in Performing Arts students across the school are learning about Melodic notation.  At CHPS Music Literacy is a major priority and using a Kodaly Approach students learn about reading and writing Music in developmentally appropriate stages, laying a solid foundation for all future Musical endeavours.  This includes playing instruments, creating and composing.  Our students love using the big Music Stave which we call the Music House in Junior school because it is where all our Musical sounds live.

By Year 6 our students are capable of reading and writing Music with up to 5 notes (Pentatonic scale) using Solfa, Treble clef note names and Hand signs.  We are working to extend our program to include Major scale, Minor scales and Blues scales for future year 6’s as we have been rolling out this program over the last few years.

Library News

Our Book Fair is next week !!

Our school Book Fair will run in the Library next week from Monday 13th May to Friday 17th May.  We would love to see as many families as possible visit our Book Fair.

A range of books from one of our suppliers, Lamont Books, will be on display in the Library and are available for purchase.  This is a great fundraising opportunity for our school. Opening times for the Book Fair are below:

Monday 13th May                       8.30 - 9.30am

Tuesday 14th May                       8.30 - 9.30am and 2.00 – 4.00pm

Wednesday 15th May                 8.30 - 9.30am and 3.30 - 4.30pm

Thursday 16th May                     8.30 - 9.30am

Friday 17th May                           8.30 - 9.30am

All classes will have a chance to come in and write out a ‘wish list’ during the week of the Book Fair to bring home.  We do remind the children that it is a ‘wish list’ and it doesn’t mean that they will necessarily get anything that they write down.  On the back of the wish list forms are instructions on how you can pay online if you can’t make it to the Book Fair.  If you make a payment this way, please make sure that your child has been into the Book Fair to redeem the receipt that you receive by email BEFORE the Book Fair closes on Friday morning.

We are also asking for staff and parent volunteers to help with selling at this year’s Book Fair.  If you can give half an hour of your time, please email  jessica.ward@education.vic.gov.au.  Library staff will be at all sessions to explain how things work.

Sick Bay

We have had several cases Slapped Cheek as well as colds and flu in the school.  If your child has any symptoms, please ensure they are kept home from school.  Seek advice from your health practitioner if you have any concerns with exposure to Slapped Cheek, particularly if pregnant.
