Reading

CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Reading this week the Foundation students will be continuing on with their understanding of making connections when reading.

VOCABULARY

Making connections: when we connect something from a book e.g. an event that happened, a particular character, something in a picture etc to either another book or something that may have happened to ourselves.

For example- your child might read a book about a character learning how to ride a bike- your child might make the connection to themselves when they were learning how to ride  a bike or are currently learning how to.

Text to self connection: making a connection with something that has happened in a book to something that has happened to ourselves.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

As your child reads either a dot book from their blue satchel or a book they may have at home stop on different pages and ask your child if they can make a connection to something on the page you have stopped on.

Your child may like to draw their connection on a piece of paper or share their connection with another member of your family/household.

Encourage your child to share how their connection is similar to what has occurred/seen in the book.
