Dear Skye Families,
I hope this Week 5 newsletter finds you well. It's been another big couple of weeks and we have plenty of updates and highlights to share!
What a fantastic turnout we had for our Mother's Day Mixer! It was great to see so many mothers and special people joining us in the classrooms and the Gym. A big shoutout to our marvellous PTF who put in an incredible amount of time, energy, and effort to make this event a success. Your dedication and hard work made the day special for everyone involved. Thank you for all your hard work!
Despite the inclement weather, we were thrilled to see so many families join us for this year's edition of Walk Safely to School Day. The rainy weather failed to dampen spirits as we marked the occasion with colorful balloons and a delicious breakfast at school. It was lovely to see everyone come together and embrace the benefits of walking, cycling, or using a scooter to travel to and from school. We look forward to continuing to promote the health and environmental benefits associated with these activities and encourage more families to participate in the future.
We’re excited to invite the Skye community to our Maths Open Afternoon next Tuesday, 21st May. From 2:15pm, families are welcome to join their children in their classrooms for an insight into our innovative approach to teaching Maths. We’ll be focusing on the use of Maths games to make learning fun and engaging. Each family will receive a Maths Games Passport filled with tasks designed to support Maths learning at home. This is a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand how we are making Maths enjoyable and interactive for our students.
How the Afternoon Works:
We can’t wait to see you there !
A gentle reminder about our Mobile Phone Policy: students are allowed to bring mobile phones and wearables (including smartwatches) to school, but they must be turned off and stored securely at the front office during school hours. This policy is in place to ensure that our students remain focused on their learning and to prevent any distractions during school hours. In case of emergencies, parents can contact their children through the school's administration office. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy.
Congratulations to the students who received Excellence Awards at our last assembly:
These students have shown outstanding effort and achievement. Keep up the great work team!
There was good news for school families in the recently released Victorian Budget. The new School Saving Bonus will provide $400 for each eligible student to help families cover the costs of school uniforms and activities in 2025. This financial support will be available to parents and carers of every child enrolled in a Victorian government school in 2025. The bonus will be credited to your school accounts, rather than paid directly, to help meet the costs of your children’s activities and uniforms. More information will be provided as it comes to hand, and we hope this initiative will provide some relief and support to our families.
We are pleased to introduce our 2024 School Council! School councils play an important role in Victorian government schools by helping to strengthen community confidence in the school and building and securing the school's reputation. Our school council comprises parents, the principal, and staff members, with parent members making up more than one-third of the total membership, as detailed in Ministerial Order 1280 Constitution of Government School Councils. Parent members in this category are elected by parents of students currently attending the school. It's important for our school community to have an understanding of the faces that make up our School Council.
Introducing:
As part of the Ballarto Road Upgrade, VicRoads are about to undertake early works at the Potts Road intersection. This involves relocating power poles and overhead powerlines at the intersection from Monday, 27th May to Wednesday, 29th May 2024. Please be aware that there will be a temporary power outage on Wednesday, 29th May between 8am and 5pm. United Energy will notify impacted customers. To ensure the safety of the community, vehicle access in and out of Potts Road to Ballarto Road will be closed during this time. Please follow detour signs via Valley Road and McClelland Drive. VicRoads appreciates the community's patience and understanding as they work to improve the local infrastructure.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
Have a great fortnight,
Tim
