Connect : Year 3

May 2024

The autumn weather has been on point in the past week! We have enjoyed getting out during recess, lunchtime and class time to enjoy the sun while it lasts!

A few quick reminders:

  • MATHS OPEN AFTERNOON: Tuesday 21st of May - lots of fun activities to be involved in - See you there!
  • please ensure your child has a spare set of clothing, including socks as slips and trips can mean spare clothing comes in handy!
  • continue to bring in reading satchels. We try and keep on top of the students changing their readers. Thank you for your help in this!
  • Germs: even though it isn't officially winter, the germs have begun in full force. We are providing sanitiser and utlising the air purifiers. Please let us know if your child will be away as they're unwell. We are always here for support too.

3/4 Hooptime

Any students wishing to participate in this years 3/4 Hoop-time competition can register interest by completing the form sent out in the past fortnight via Sentral. This year our Hoop-time competition will be held on Thursday 23rd May at Frankston Basketball Stadium.

We are hoping to take as many teams as possible again this year and encourage anyone to get involved no matter how much basketball experience you have previously.

What's happening in the classrooms?

Literacy: After our incredible trip to Moonlit Sanctuary, we have used the opportunity to follow up by researching animals, locating information, learning to navigate non-fiction texts and creating questions. The students have used a mix of books and website to seek this information. They then have been learning to write facts in their own words and present their work in a range of graphic organisers.

Numeracy: We have been busy covering a few topics in Maths this fortnight! We have been problem solving using the four operations, using money, skip counting, identifying fractions and more!

Next week we will move into the topic of time. The students will be supported to read analogue and digital time, interpret calendars and timetables. Time can be a tricky concept, so lots of practise at home can be handy!

Inquiry: Before we begin our conservation lap booklets about a chosen animal, we have been teaching the children about the environments around them and how a life cycle works. The students have been facinated with how chickens hatch from eggs and butterflies emerging from it's chrysalis. This week we also explored what an ecosystem is. We will wrap up this part of the unit by looking at rainforests, what photosynthesis is and the impact humans are making on our beautiful flora and fauna.

Wellbeing:

Our SWPBS (school wide positive behavious statements) this week is 'I use polite and respectful words'. We have also explored 'I respect my own, others and and the schools resources'. These statements help us guide the students about what is acceptable and wanted behaviours in order to become positive role models in society.

Check out what we have been up to!

Writing: Check out some of the students' writing for our recounts. These are called 'Fact or Fiction'. The students had to come up with two stories that were true and one false. I wonder if you can work out which ones were 'fiction'?
