Year 6 Graffiti/Street Art Incursion

On Thursday 24th April, Xavier from Warner Youth Education presented the difference between street art and graffiti to our students. The incursion aimed to help us understand how street art is a commissioned piece of artwork and that graffiti is unwanted damage to someone’s property. This also costs businesses thousands of dollars a year to clean up. The students learned about the flow-on effects of how graffiti can cause families and businesses added stress. The incursion also supports students by equipping them with strategies for saying no in difficult situations and dealing with peer pressure.

Years 3-6 Taiko Drumming Incursion

On Tuesday our Years 3 to 6 students participated in a Taiko Drumming Incursion provided by Kiyomi Calwell from EZ Japanese. Kiyomi travels all around Australia, in her van full of taiko drums, delivering workshops for students. The School Hall was set up as a Taiko Dojo with real Japanese drums as well as drums made from recycled materials. The students learnt proper drumming technique as well as the discipline needed to be a member of a Taiko team. All participating year levels learnt a complicated drumming routine and could perform it by the end of the 50 minute session, which was no easy feat! It was a fantastic day and I have had a lot of students come up to me and tell me how much they enjoyed this incursion.
