What's Happening In Secondary

News and Information from Secondary

Last week was a thrilling one for DCS Secondary, marked by remarkable performances both in team sports and individual competitions. Our students demonstrated sportsmanship and resilience, representing our school with pride in various high-stakes encounters.

Futsal

Three of our teams competed against neighbouring schools, including Leighland Christian School, Latrobe High and St Brendan Shaw College in a multi-school tournament. The energy and commitment displayed by our teams were commendable, with all three teams making it to the semi-finals—an outstanding achievement that speaks volumes about their dedication and teamwork.

The Under 14 team, in particular, showed incredible spirit by pushing their semi-final match into extra time. Although they narrowly missed advancing to the finals, their performance was nothing short of heroic. The effort put forth by our students left them understandably fatigued, yet their determination and hard work were evident to all.

Individual Spotlight: Armi’s Cross Country Success

In addition to our team successes, DCS Secondary was proudly represented in the All Schools Cross Country event by Armi, who competed in the mountain biking (MTB) races held in Hobart. Armi’s day was full of ups and downs, which began promisingly as he performed impressively in the XC category, securing a spot in the downhill stage.

However, during a practice run, an unforeseen incident occurred where Armi was struck by another rider, leading to a broken shifter on his bike. This mishap made gear changing a challenge during the downhill race. Despite this setback, Armi showed remarkable resilience by continuing to compete, embodying the true spirit of perseverance. His courage and determination were evident as he raced well under challenging conditions.

Armi’s positive attitude shone through as he finished the day pleased with his performance and having thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He returned from the event not just with muddy gear, but also with valuable experiences that underline the importance of resilience and positivity in the face of adversity.

Reflecting Our Values

These events are a testament to the spirit of DCS Secondary, where students are encouraged to embody values of resilience, sportsmanship and pride in every endeavour. Whether on the field or on the track, our students continue to represent our school with honour and enthusiasm. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the manner in which they carry themselves during competition.
