Oban Road Closures

Please note that we have been communicating with Maroondah City Council about the upcoming works on Oban Rd and have received some clarification about the impact on school families. For families who do not live close enough to have received the council's flyer, we wanted to ensure everybody has the same information. Between Monday May 13 and Saturday May 18 the section of Oban road between Athelstane Rd and Terrigal Close will be closed. A detour down Terrigal Close and Florence Rd and through Melview Drive will be signed. Please note, that there is still full traffic access on Oban Rd in front of the school and the circle around the school using Athelstane and Cormistom Roads. There will be pedestrian (including bikes) access along Oban Rd through the section that is closed. This section of road is not available for parking, too, which may increase congestion at some times. Any families who normally drive to school from the west (Kubis Dr, Terrigal Cl) may find it easier to park on that side and walk the rest of the way to school. Families who normally drive from the east (North Ringwood shops) will find it easier to drive past the detour signs and remain on Oban Rd and do drop off as normal. We anticipate that it may be busier than usual in Athelstane Rd and that turning around on Oban Rd may prove difficult, so please exercise caution and patience with each other in these areas. Please also remain respectful of the local residents and do not park across driveways. Families who walk/ride to school and cross Melview Drive, we anticipate much higher traffic. We have requested support from Maroondah City Council to ensure the safety of families and children crossing the road to walk through Rikki Court. At present, nothing has been confirmed by council, but they are considering our concerns closely. In the event that there is no additional pedestrian crossing installed, please ensure your children know how to cross safely with increased traffic in this area. There will be no parking in Melview Drive, too, which may impact some family routines. Attached is a document from the council outlining this information with pictures. Any further information we receive will be passed on via Compass.
