Cinema Night

Feedback about the cinema night was very positive, and it appears everyone had a great time....even Luke on sausage sizzle duty. Clare and her small but dedicated team pulled off another fantastic fundraiser. They appear to have raised $3000. on the night.

Fundraiser idea

Fundraiser idea. Recently, I tried out the local Can/bottle recycle depot at Zagames. I found out that you can direct your refund to a nominated charity or school instead of collecting a voucher to spend at Coles. Once we are an approved charity, we will let the community know that you can choose Newlands Primary School as a recipient of the refund.

Murphy St Traffic Issues

As the construction works are coming to an end, and the builders will cease parking on Murphy Street, we believe it is time to remind parents about street parking on Murphy Street. As we are all aware, we as a school community do share the street with our neighbours, and we thank them for their tolerance. However, it has been brought to my attention that some parents/carers are behaving dangerously at drop-off and pick-up times. Some of the behaviour includes executing U-turns, parking across driveways, parking on the school crossing, and even parking in the disabled car space without displaying a disability sticker. We understand parking close to the school is at a premium. So we suggest the following options:

  • Park in one of the side streets nearby and walk your child to school.
  • Park in the underground carpark at Woolies.
  • Walk or ride a bike with your child.

The newly installed car park in Elizabeth will not be available to parents as it is designated as a staff car park.

Anti-social Behaviour

Over the past weeks, we have all observed, heard, or been told about a number of incidents outside Woolies. I have had discussions with the police, and they have provided the following advice:

I strongly recommend that parents call Triple 000 if they see behaviour that requires police attendance.

The people participating in anti-social behaviour may be unpredictable and violent if confronted by a member of the public. Please do not place yourself in an unnecessary danger and please do not film any individuals. Keep your distance and seek help accordingly.

Mother's Day

What an amazing turnout for this morning's special Mother's Day breakfast. Luke has just gotten better at using BBQ tools since the cinema night. His delicate finessing of the eggs is natural. The team of teachers and ES staff to support the efforts to feed so many patient parents was an organisational master class.

We hope that Newlands's efforts today kick off a wonderful weekend for our community, especially Mother's Day.

Kate's replacement

We are happy to inform the community, especially Kate and Juan's classes, that we have secured Colleen for the remainder of this term as Kate's replacement. She is a very experienced teacher and comes with a wealth of educational knowledge. Then, for terms 3 & 4, we have successfully appointed Kaya. The community may already know Kaya, who was previously Louis' support aide. We look forward to having Kaya back at Newlands, her natural habitat. Here is a welcome letter from Colleen to the F/1s, please make her feel welcome!

Bronia

After many years working at Newlands, Bronia has made the decision to strike out in a new direction, but not in the field of Education. Bronia will be missed by one, and all her fabulous over the PA for students was audio silk. She was thoughtful and compassionate with the students at all times. We are currently advertising for Bronia's replacement and will inform the community once we have completed the recruitment process.

Bronia, I wish you well in your new endeavour, and I, for one, will miss your charming sense of humour. All the best.

IDAHOBIT Day  Friday 17th May

We will be celebrating this day through classroom activities and showing that the world really is a rainbow by not wearing our school uniforms on the day but wearing any colour of the rainbow that we choose.

Open Learning

Next Friday at 3pm, we will be hosting Open Learning classrooms. This is a time for students to showcase their wonderful learning with their family and for parents/guardians to engage with their child's class. Please come along and join in at your child's classroom.
