National Simultaneous Storytime
Next Wednesday 22 May, F-6 students will be participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime. NSS is an annual campaign that supports children’s literacy by encouraging reading in a fun, community event. The Charlton Neighbourhood House has kindly donated a copy of the book for each classroom to enjoy, along with stickers and bookmarks. We thank them for their support. As part of our NSS celebrations, we will be constructing a ‘bower’ outside Mr Kemp’s office. Students are encouraged to bring in ‘blue things’ from home to decorate the bower (these won’t be returned to families) – blue bottle tops, blue string or ribbon, blue bread tags, etc. We can’t wait to see the finished creation. Happy reading!
Calder Winter Sports
Thursday, Years 3-6 students took part in the annual Calder Winter Sports. Students selected from a variety of sports such as T-Ball, Soccer, Minkey, Netball and AFL 9s. The sun was shining, and participation was incredible by all students. Charlton Colleges Marley M and Sam C were awards sportsmanship awards from the day. Congratulations to all our 3-6 students who led by example and had all students take part in the day.
Book Review by Tom M
Tom recommended ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, by J.K.Rowling. This is a fantasy novel set at Hogwarts. Hogwarts is a school of witchcraft and wizardry. There are many main characters such as, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy & Crab. Harry enters into the Triwizard tournament against his wishes. He undertakes 3 tasks including dragons, mermaids and a death-defying maze. He then has to battle death eaters and Voldemort. Tom rates it 5 out of 5 stars and recommends it for students in year 3+.
