Year 7 Todd River Cleanup

Our Year 7 Humanities students have been busy this week with their fieldwork excursion to the Todd River.

As part of their geography unit in Humanities, students participated in a fieldwork activity that involved collecting all kinds of litter from the Todd River.

They split themselves into groups and worked together to collect as much rubbish as they could find. Once collected, this rubbish was methodically tallied and categorized as part of their analysis.

Our results revealed that glass, plastic and metal were the most common types of material found, with one group even managing to find an entire bicycle tyre!

At St Philips, we have a strong focus on sustainability and protecting the environment. This activity allowed students to take a hands-on approach to understanding why and how pollution in our river systems can be harmful to the environment.

Overall, more than 20 large bin bags were filled with litter, and students had the opportunity to experience being part of the solution. Students will now be working on developing strategies for the future to ensure we keep our beautiful Todd River clean.
