Principal's Chat

Term 2, Week 4 - Friday 10th May, 2024

Dear Families of OLSC

On behalf of the whole OLSC community I wish all of the mothers, grandmothers and special people a very Happy Mother's Day!  I hope you all get spoilt and at very least a cup of tea in bed on Sunday morning - Enjoy your special day!

I hope we all take the time this weekend to celebrate the mums, grandmothers and special women in our lives.  I know I speak on behalf of all of the community in offering our prayers of support for everyone that no longer has their mother with them.

Mother's Day Breakfast and Liturgy

It was great to see that so many people were able to join us for the Mother's Day breakfast and liturgy.  I thank the parents that were part of the organisation of the day and to all of the staff that were here extra early to start cooking!

Mother's Day Stall

I was talking to one of our volunteers today at the mother's day stall and she said this was one of her favourite events of the year.  I have to agree and what a great success it was.  Thank you to all of the helpers that volunteered to give the students of OLSC an opportunity to spoil their mums.  I hope there are plenty of surprises as the mothers and grandmothers receive their gifts on Sunday.

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday 22nd of May (or in the week of), our school will be participating in the 24th National Simultaneous Storytime. This is an annual event that happens in schools all over Australia where students listen to a shared story for enjoyment. This year, the book that was chosen is called 'Bowerbird Blues' by Australian author Aura Parker and it is a moving story about patience, persistence, searching and fulfilment. All of the students at OLSC will be listening to this story in their classrooms in Week 6 and will be responding in a variety of ways about the story.

First Eucharist Family Night

On Tuesday 7th May we had a Family Workshop as part of the preparation for First Communion.  I thank the families for their attendance and to John and the staff for running the evening.  It was great to see that this event and preparation was so well supported by our families as students prepare for this very important Sacrament.

Our Next Community Mass is Just Around the Corner

Our next Community Mass is just around the corner!  Since the re-introduction of Community Masses we have been delighted with the number of people that have been able to attend.

Our next Community Mass is on Sunday 19th May and I invite all of our families to come along.  At this mass we will be presenting the first communion students to the congregation and they will each distribute a 'pray for me' card to a parishioner.

The June and July Community Masses will include the OLSC First Eucharist Students.  I invite all families to attend and support the students receiving this important sacrament for the first time.
