Twilight Open Evening

Earlier this term, we welcomed over 250 prospective families into the College for the Twilight Opening Evening. It was extremely well attended, with the rainy weather deciding to hold off - amazingly.

I would like to acknowledge the many, many students who assisted as tour guides, musicians, scientists, cooks, faculty representatives, Energy Breakthrough and sports students and artists. So many visitors commented positively on the students, which was wonderful to hear. They are always such terrific ambassadors of the school. Thanks also to our wonderful staff who explained and showcased to visitors what happens within their faculty areas. Particular thanks to Sallie T (Marketing), Michelle X and Lucy C (catering), Petrina T and Raechel O'S (Organisation), as well as Year Levels Leaders and staff and the maintenance team for their work prior to the evening.

Staff vs Students - Basketball

There is definitely one thing here that our Year 12 students enjoy organising, and it is the Staff vs Student games! Not only does it bring the College community together but, most importantly, it reinforces the valuable connection between our staff and students.

After a tremendous effort by both teams, our Staff won the game with a very close win 27-26.

Congratulations to our Sports Leaders for organising another entertaining lunchtime activity for all to enjoy.

Social Justice

Wellsprings for Women volunteering has begun with our Year 10 students. This is a marvelous opportunity for our students to live out their gospel values helping in language and computer classes, creche childminding and cooking in order to support the women who attend the centre. Testimonies are below with the reflections of several students.

Going to Wellsprings was an immensely enjoyable and an educational experience that we all enjoyed thoroughly. It was amazing to be able to see the important connection the women had with each other as a support system, even when away from their place of birth. Being able to see the closely formed bonds with each other to overcome the challenges of leaving your home, and learning a new language with such a strong determination to learn was nothing short of inspirational, and will stay with us moving away from the experience.

Our experience at  Wellsprings was wonderful and very busy. Jannessa and Giselle had their hands busy with young children. They comforted crying kids and had a lot of fun playing with them on the playground and role playing in an ice cream shop. A challenge was making sure all the kids were safe and happy as many attempted to slide heads first and swing upside down. Vivian, Haylyn, Isabelle and Auriko spent their time cooking with the head chef of Wellsprings. They made delicious, golden, sugar biscuits and even got the option to eat the cookies with the  tea or coffee of their choice!  We are grateful for the opportunity and want to thank everyone at Wellsprings for welcoming us with warm hospitality.

Athletics Day

A few weeks ago, we had our annual Athletics Day on a beautiful sunny day. This school event is filled with various sports for students to compete in, to score points for their House.

An Athletics Day is not complete without a Staff vs Students relay race, as it's definitely a crowd favourite! Congratulations to the Staff team who took home first place.

Thank you to everyone involved in such a successful day for our students, especially our Sports Leaders and HEPE Staff who led the day.

Special congratulations to our winning House, Romero! 🟡 🌼 🌟 ☀️

Well done to every student who participated.

Library News

The Killester College Library is a place for reading, studying, playing games and relaxing.

We strive to create an environment where everyone is welcome and the atmosphere is cosy and inviting.

As the new teacher librarian, I feel very lucky to work with a team of motivated and creative individuals who work hard every day to meet the needs of our staff and students. The students often describe the space as calm and comfortable and a place where they feel safe and supported.

We are busy working to rejuvenate one area of the library to make it more user-friendly.

This area will become a reading lounge, games area, and creative space for our budding artists.

We have bought many new books this year, with our most popular genres being mystery, romance, manga and fantasy.

We are trialing a new online study resource, Britannica Essentials. The link below will give access to the trial until the end of May.

Feel free to have a play around and see what you think.

Student Wellbeing Committee

A new volunteer group that is open to all students, has organised their first-ever event today at lunchtime!

The event will recognise 'Do it for Dolly Day' which is a day which encourages young people to spread messages of kindness and raise their voices against bullying.

What our wonderful students planned for today:

💛 Gate greetings - the students have designed butterflies with messages of hope and kindness which will be given out at the front gate in the morning.

💛 Slides for morning homeroom. These slides have been put together by the students and give you more information about the purpose of the day.

💛 Brigid's Well at lunchtime - All students are invited to Brigid's Well for kindness-themed activities and blue lollies.

💛 Atrium at lunchtime - Jam Sessions run by the City of Greater Dandenong

This event was entirely organised by the amazing students, with the guidance of Ms. Armstrong and Ms. Galante.

Mother's Day Morning Tea - Staff

On Friday 10 May, we held a Mother's Day Morning Tea for our staff. We were joined by some special guests, staff who are currently on maternity leave and their bubbas!

It was a lovely morning to honour and acknowledge how special our Mother and Mother-figures are to us!
