Whilst learning about persuasive writing the students have been studying the book – Dear Mrs LaRue by Mark Teague. "Dear Mrs. LaRue" by Mark Teague is a delightful children's book told through a series of letters from Ike, a mischievous but endearing dog, to his owner, Mrs. LaRue. The story unfolds as Ike recounts his misadventures at obedience school, where he finds himself wrongfully accused of various misdemeanours. Through Ike's humorous and dramatic letters, readers are treated to a charming tale of loyalty, misunderstandings, and the power of unconditional love between a pet and its owner. The students have completed a series of activities showing their deep understanding of the text.
Writing
Learning about debating through writing the students have been learning about the intricacies of constructing persuasive arguments, honing rhetorical skills, and mastering the art of articulating viewpoints effectively on paper. Through writing, the students have learnt to dissect complex issues, analyse different perspectives, and craft compelling narratives that sway opinions and provoke critical thinking. The students thoroughly enjoyed compiling their arguments for or against the topic of ‘School uniforms should be banned’.
Maths
The students have been immersed in the realm of measurement in mathematics, particularly delving into the concepts of time, area, and perimeter. Through engaging lessons and activities, they have been exploring the intricacies of time measurement, mastering the art of telling time, understanding units of time, and applying them in everyday contexts. Additionally, they have been captivated by the exploration of area, comprehending how to calculate the space enclosed by two-dimensional shapes and the significance of these measurements in practical scenarios. Furthermore, they have delved into perimeter measurement, grasping the importance of quantifying the lengths of the boundaries of shapes and the practical implications of such calculations.
Grade 5 Camp
The Grade 5 students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Camp Rumbug in Foster, brimming with excitement and anticipation. Throughout their stay, they immersed themselves in a wide range of exhilarating activities and adventures that tested their courage, teamwork, and resilience. From soaring through the air on the thrilling flying fox to navigating the tranquil waters during canoeing and raft building, each activity offered its own blend of excitement and challenge. The mud run provided an opportunity for them to embrace the messiness of outdoor exploration, while bush craft sessions instilled invaluable survival skills and a deeper connection with nature. Engaging in initiatives fostered collaboration and problem-solving skills, strengthening relationships among classmates. And as the culmination of their journey, the leap of faith challenged each student to conquer their fears and trust in their abilities. Through it all, they exemplified the school values of PROUD as they stepped out of their comfort zones, supported one another, and embraced the spirit of adventure wholeheartedly.
Athletics Day
School athletics day is a vibrant celebration of unity and competition, where the four houses come together to showcase their talents and spirit. Throughout the day, students embody the essence of teamwork and sportsmanship as they compete in various track and field events. Whether sprinting down the track, launching themselves in the long jump pit, or hurling shot puts, each participant gave their all, striving to achieve personal bests while contributing to their house's overall success. It was a day filled with exhilarating performances, where cheers of encouragement echo across the field, and camaraderie binds teammates together. As the events unfold, students not only showcase their athletic prowess but also demonstrate the power of collaboration and determination.
Mother’s Day Afternoon
Friday afternoon was a heartwarming occasion as mothers joined their children at school for special Mother's Day activities. Students eagerly welcomed their mothers with respect and appreciation. It was a beautiful reminder of the cherished bond between mother and child, leaving both mothers and students with hearts full of warmth and gratitude.
