HOUSE CAPTAIN REPORTS
Kooira:
Harmony day was a day everyone was looking forward to, we were especially excited for the Chinese Martial Arts. We had a range of many different events like the Vietnamese Dance, Aboriginal Storytelling, Spanish Fiesta, Chinese Martial Arts, Mentor group poster competition and the Polynesian Infusion. We were really impressed of the students, They were respectful and made sure to thank everyone for making time to show us their culture. The students especially enjoyed the Vietnamese Dance, it was one of our favourites and was truly inspiring how they use dance to reflect their emotions. We had lots of fun and hope to see many more events and opportunities like this in the future.

Warrat:
Last week, our house had the great opportunity of learning about different cultures in a variety of different ways. Like Chinese martial arts, Spanish fiesta, Vietnamese dancing, aboriginal story telling and Polynesian infusion. Warrat has done their best to show great respect to all our guests and performers by listening and following instructions. During these activities, students and teachers have learned how to tell stories with aboriginal art, different dances and there meaning behind the Vietnamese dances and the Spanish fiesta. And simple but important self-defending Chinese martial arts skills. Many students mentioned how they have enjoyed the Chinese martial arts most out of all the activities we did that day. Even I had the same opinion. It was fast, exciting and nerve-wracking. Overall, our house enjoyed all the activities. And we are grateful we could participate in all of them.

Coolup:
During Harmony day Purple House participated in a variety of cultural events. In the morning we had a Spanish fiesta where we learned how to do some of their cultural dance styles which is usually with a partner ( girl and boy.) Later on we attended Chinese Martial arts learning about self defence and Chinese traditions revolving around martial arts. After recess we had Vietnamese. Where we got to watch the Vietnamese dance group share their culture through performing a dance and song with traditional drums, which we all attempted to do after them. Later on we attended an Aboriginal story telling where we learnt how to share/express our story through Indigenous art in a group with a few people. Lastly after lunch Purple and the rest of the House’s went to the gym to attend the Polynesian Infusion performance. We all got to see their cultural dances, instruments and songs whilst also learning about their traditions and country. Through all these activities Purple house attended we were able to learn about other cultures and their traditions.
Purple House did a fantastic job showing our School values which are respect, aspiration , acceptance and achievement at Harmony day. Everyone was participating and having a go for all the activities being respectful to the Guest’s and their culture and also their peers when having a go or sharing to everyone. Purple House displayed a positive attitude towards the activities, dances and games. It was amazing to see how well we worked together as a team. Everyone was willing to help out, share ideas, and support each other to ensure that our house representation of different cultures was both creative and respectful. The day was filled with positivity, excitement and great energy.
