What does the CAPS team do?

The School Psychologists work with students to support them in various areas, for example:

  • Anxiety or worries
  • Feeling down or depressed
  • Friendship issues
  • Family problems
  • Difficulties at school (eg. exam stress, concentration, learning)
  • Grief and loss
  • Stress
  • Social skills
  • Difficulty sleeping

The School Psychologists work collaboratively and confidentially with students to support their wellbeing and learning. CAPS can also assist individuals in seeking additional external support or assessment if needed.

How to access CAPS support?

In most situations, the first point of contact for CAPS support will be your child’s Classroom Teacher (Junior School) or Head Mentor (Senior School) who can assist you with making a referral for CAPS. Parents and carers are welcome to contact Bec or Emily directly during the school day by email or phone (02 6392 0300). Senior School Students can make a self-referral on the Hub or by making an appointment in person or via email.

The Student Support Suite is located on the first floor of the Anderson Centre.

What if I need support outside of school hours?

There are many avenues of support outside of school hours if you need mental health support. In addition to speaking with your GP or calling 000 in emergencies, you can also seek support from the 24-hour Mental Health Line: 1800 011 511 for mental health advice.
