5/6 CLASSROOM

English

In English, we have expanded our understanding of persuasive texts, and the essential elements needed to effectively communicate our point of view. Students have explored the specific language required to express their opinions with confidence and how incorporating a rich and varied vocabulary strengthens their ability to articulate ideas persuasively.

In spelling, we have investigated what a prefix, base word and suffix is and explored a range of words that includes each part. Students have explored word sums and spelling strategies that need to be used to change words into different forms.

Maths

In Maths, we have focused on factors and how to identify if a number is divisible by certain numbers. Students have revised their learning in Daly Reviews and used their knowledge to complete Maths investigations.

Cross Curriculum

Our Market Day plans are coming together well, and students are beginning to plan how they would like to advertise their stall. We can’t wait to share more soon!

Religious Education

In Religious Education, students have started learning about Lent and the origins and meaning of Lent.

Over the past few weeks, we have re-introduced the Merits rewards system for students who show our school values of Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning and Care for Environment. In our Student SRC in Week 5, students were asked for ideas for rewards when we reach targets of 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000. These will be shared once we have finalised each one.

We’re excited to award more merits to students who demonstrate our school values!
