3/4 CLASSROOM

This fortnight in the grade 3/4 room we have continued to enjoy reading our novel Matilda, we will be completing the book tomorrow! It has been great learning and investigating all the wonderful vocabulary words that Roald Dahl includes in his novels. With our Matilda unit we have also been creating persuasive writing pieces, persuading the reader that old school corporal punishment (like in Matilda) should not return to our schools. It has been great debating and discussing in class about this topic.

In maths we have been learning about time, particularly learning about elapsed time and estimating time. We have estimated and then investigated how long it would take us to complete simple tasks like star jumps, throwing balls and drawing shapes. We were all pretty exhausted after we got through all the activities!!

In Religion we shared our prayer experiences with the class that we planned and delivered in small groups. It was great to see everyone working together on their prayer experiences that included nature walks, sing alongs, godly plays, prayer through drawing and prayer through reflection. This week we will learn about Lent and why it is a significant time in the liturgical calendar for Catholics.

In Cross Curriculum we have been learning about 'belonging'. We have also followed this topic in art to create artworks of 'The Places we Call Home'. The grade 3/4 class has made an oil pastel art piece of Ironbark Stadium, we discussed that it is a place that brings the community together and is a place where we feel we belong. The other classes have made an oil pastel piece of the Waranga Basin (grade 1/2) and St Mary's School (grade 5/6).
