Principal Team's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

Maramba Soars!

I want to begin by recognising the incredible effort we’ve all put in to improve student attendance. Thanks to our collective dedication, I am proud to share that in 2024, our school outperformed all other similar schools, achieving the best attendance record. This was measured by the percentage of students who had more than 20 days of absence. Please see the snippet below for more details:

Well done to our students and families for their ongoing commitment, and to our staff who continually work hard to develop positive relationships and a welcoming space where each student is known, greeted and valued. At Maramba, we offer a well-rounded curriculum that includes opportunities for fun and enrichment, inspiring students to fully engage in their learning journey and look forward to school. Soon, with our continued efforts, we will be exemplary in all other areas of schooling as well. Go Maramba!

Curriculum Day

Our Curriculum Day last Friday offered a valuable opportunity for staff to deepen their knowledge of the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships curriculum and to examine the important role we play in promoting positive mental health and gender equality within our students. In the morning, we were privileged to have the South-Eastern Region’s Respectful Relationships team lead a session that highlighted the importance of these foundational principles in supporting student wellbeing.

In the afternoon, our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) coach for South Melbourne introduced the SWPBS framework, helping staff understand the significance of clear, explicit instruction in empowering students to succeed. This session highlighted the importance of unconditional positive regard and multi-tiered support systems.

To wrap up the day, staff worked together to develop a communication strategy, outlining the purpose of our four main communication channels: Compass, Class Dojo, phone calls, and Instagram. This collaborative effort will ensure we maintain effective and consistent communication with students, parents, and the broader school community.

Legal e-scooter Use

At Maramba Primary School, we have exemplary grounds and facilities that reflect our commitment to providing an environment that is both inspiring and functional, ensuring our students have the best possible spaces to learn, grow, and thrive. Since we have extensive space, there have been incidents of teenagers and adults riding e-scooters throughout the day. This is not allowed.

Use of electric scooters is legalised in Victoria.

You can legally ride an e-scooter in Victoria if you:

  • ride on:
    • shared-use paths (not on footpaths, which is what Maramba has), or
    • roads that have a speed limit up to 60km/h
  • are at least 16 years old
  • wear a helmet
  • do not travel more than 20km/h
  • do not use your mobile phone
  • do not carry a passenger (dinking).

Legal e-scooter definition

A legal e-scooter is defined as a vehicle that:

  • is designed for use by one person
  • has a maximum speed of 25 km/h when ridden on level ground
  • transports a person while the person is standing or seated
  • has two wheels (one in front of the other)
  • has a footboard between the front and rear wheels
  • is steered by a handlebar
  • does not weigh more than 45kg
  • is propelled by a motor, or by the person pushing one foot against the ground.

An e-scooter that falls outside the scope of this definition is considered an unregistered motor vehicle, and is liable to penalties and the Victorian Police being informed.

The School Colour Run is in full swing!

The Colour Run will take place on April 3rd, 2025, which is less than 3 weeks away!

So far, we have raised over $8,000—and that means eight lucky teachers will be getting slimed! It’s all for a great cause, and we cannot wait to see everyone get involved.

Don't forget to scan the code on the wristband sent home last week for a chance to win a $500 prize credit.

Year 4 ACMI Excursion

All Year 4 students visited ACMI, where they participated in the 'Stop Motion Startup' workshop. They learned about the magic of stop-motion animation and the importance of collaboration in the animation process. Using the principles of shape, color, and pattern, they designed and animated their own unique works.

Ivy – I loved the opportunity to be creative by making the Lego Stop Animation. The flashing lights helped create the illusion.

Grace – We learned so many new things, and we even saw how TVs have changed over time.

Natalie – I learned about animation; you can take different pictures and put them together.

Hunter – My favourite part was the Lego Stop Animation. I made a snake with Jack.
