Swimming Carnival

On Monday 10th February we held our annual Swimming Carnival at Melton Waves Leisure Centre. Year 7-12 students participated in a range of events including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and relays, along with novelty events including ball scrambles, Lilo and pool noodle races and finished off the day with a free swim.
It was great to have the weather on our side! The sun was shining and the students’ participation and behaviour was excellent throughout the day.
Congratulations to Barak House who won the overall points competition.
2025 has see the introduction of the inaugural House Champions with each house having 2 student names as house champion. House champions won the most events of all students within their house.
Congratulations to our house captains who presented the awards at house assemblies and congratulations to our house champion award recipients.

The day began with all students meeting at the college, dressed in their house colours. After roll call, students made their way to their team houses. Staff members accompanied them on the 2.2 km walk from the school to Melton Waves.
Upon arrival, staff helped students settle into their designated team houses, which served as assembly points. Students began preparing for the swimming events, which were organized by age group to ensure fair competition.
For students who did not participate in the swimming events, various activities were set up, including volleyball, disc golf, and a range of other ball games. Alternatively, students could volunteer to help set up events, time races, or assist with serving food.
At the carnival, KSC set up a food stand offering a diverse selection, including hot dogs, burgers, chicken schnitzels, and soft drinks.
As the swimming events came to a close, the KSC leaders announced the winning house teams. Barak took first place, Pyke secured second, Watts came in third, and Lang placed fourth. After the winners were announced, the college community began to pack up and clean up any mess. Shortly after, students were dismissed at 2:45 PM.
Next year, we hope to see novelty events for anyone who wants to swim but not competitively. The day's success was a reflection of the sense of teamwork and community at Kurunjang Secondary College.

On the 10th of February 2025 students and teachers walked from Kurunjang Secondary College to Melton Waves Leisure Center.
Lang house lost the first time in years while Barak took their place!!
Teachers and students walked from Kurunjang Secondary College to Melton Waves Leisure Center at 9:15am on Monday the 10th of February 2025. Some people ask why Kurunjang do a swimming carnival and it’s because students compete so they can compete with other schools.
At Kurunjang Secondary College’s carnival there was sections for the students to sit at. There was a barbecue with all sorts of food and drinks like sausages in bread, veggie burgers, chicken burgers, soft drinks and water. There was also a well-being area that had games like connect 4 and tic tac toe, there was also a volleyball area and a Frisbee golf game.
The scores for the Kurunjang Secondary College carnival. Last place was Lang house with 83 points, third place was Watts house with 94 place, in second place was Pyke with 154 points, and in first place was Barak house with 178 points. Barak won the first time in years!
Here are some quotes from the swimming carnival.
Mr Bykersma from Barak house said “feels amazing, Barak beings with a B and that because it’s the best!“
Miss Mantynen from watts house said “would of loved if we had a few more swimmers but glad we came 3rd!”
Miss young from Lang house said “devastated, I expected better for Lang house”
Mr Lowry from Pyke said “Fantastic! The amount of girls and boys that participated for Pyke house it was incredible”
There was so many teachers and students even lifeguards dancing around, but there is so many more swimming carnivals to come. Hopefully lang house wins next year!
