Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we settle into 2025, I want to share some of our key focus areas for the year ahead and highlight the important role families play in supporting student success.
One of our core priorities in this year’s Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) is the continued development of high-impact teaching strategies, particularly through Explicit Teaching as part of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM). This approach ensures that every student receives clear, structured, and effective instruction to support their learning progress. Our teachers will be working closely with students to build confidence and mastery in their subjects, and we look forward to seeing the benefits of this approach reflected in student outcomes.
Another key focus this year is everyday attendance. The link between consistent attendance and academic success is undeniable—not just in terms of learning progress, but also in building strong social connections and developing lifelong habits of responsibility and resilience. Missing even a few days can significantly impact a student’s confidence and ability to keep up with their peers. We ask for your ongoing support in ensuring that your child attends school every day unless genuinely unwell.
We have already had some fantastic moments to start the year, including the Year 7 Camp, where our newest students had the opportunity to build friendships, challenge themselves, and immerse themselves in new experiences. Camps like these are a crucial part of student development, helping them foster independence, teamwork, and resilience—skills that will serve them well throughout their school journey.
I also want to take a moment to commend our students and families for their efforts on Photo Day—it was fantastic to see students in full school uniform. Wearing the correct uniform every day is about more than just appearance; it reflects our culture of high expectations, school pride, and aspirations for success. The uniform is a symbol of belonging and commitment to our shared values, and I sincerely thank parents and carers for their role in ensuring that students wear it correctly each day. Your support makes a significant difference in setting the tone for a positive learning environment.
Additionally, I encourage any parents and carers who are interested in joining our School Council to consider putting their names forward. School Council membership is now open, and nomination paperwork is available from Reception. Being part of School Council is an invaluable opportunity to contribute to the direction of our college, ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of our students and school community. Parent and carer involvement is vital, and we greatly appreciate those who are willing to take on this role.
We also have two student positions available on School Council, providing a unique leadership experience for students who want to have a voice in shaping their school. Any interested students should see Ms. Bewley or their House Assistant Principal for more information and support with the application process. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop leadership skills and actively contribute to the future of our college.
I look forward to working together as a school community throughout 2025 to make this year a successful and rewarding one for all students. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your child’s education.
Warm regards,
Aylin Gökmen
