Supporting Every Student: Ensuring success through inclusive education

Do you have concerns about your child’s learning or behaviours?

Do you feel they are falling behind and don’t know how to help them?

Are they coming home and telling you that the classwork is too hard and they don’t know what to do?

The Department of Education and Training (DET) delivers educational services for the Victorian Government, with Student Support Services being a key part of DET’s offerings. These services are designed to help children and young people overcome various barriers to learning, ensuring they reach their full educational and developmental potential through a variety of strategies and specialised support.

At Red Cliffs Secondary College, the Inclusive Programs Co-ordinator ensures that all students have access to an inclusive education. This role involves working closely with Student Support Services to address any concerns related to students' learning and engagement. If you have concerns about your child, please contact Carlie to arrange a meeting to discuss the best ways to support your child’s progress and success in the classroom. Student Support Services to not accept parent referrals. SSS offers no long-term support.

Student Support Services comprise services provided by:

  • Psychologists and guidance officers – provide cognitive assessments, learning and teaching advice to schools and attending critical incidents in schools where appropriate.
  • Speech therapists –speech and language assessments only
  • Social workers – provide support to students, their families and schools through involvement in individual, group and family work and attending critical incidents in schools where appropriate.
  • Visiting teachers – provide direct teaching and assessment of students including monitoring, evaluating and reporting progress and advice to teachers. Visiting teachers conduct hearing, vision, health, physical and other educational needs and work closely with teachers, integration aides and parents to support students with physical disabilities.
  • Behaviour analysts – provide direct behavioural assessments which may include a Functional Behavioural Assessment and intervention to individual students. Provide coaching to school’s staff and develop processes for efficiently and effectively responding to behaviours of concern.
