Celebrating International Women's Day
International Women’s Day is about celebrating the women in our lives, while identifying the gender-based injustices that continue to exist globally. Our College Captains - Maurice, Flynn, Joseph and Finn - share what this day means to them.

My mum is the strongest and most selfless person I know. She has been a pillar of strength in my life, always guiding me with wisdom, patience, and unconditional love. No matter the challenges she faces, she continues to put others before herself, showing resilience and kindness in ways that inspire me every single day. I would not be the person I am without her sacrifices, her unwavering belief in me, and the lessons she has taught me about courage, compassion, and perseverance. International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the incredible women in our lives, and for me, no one embodies that more than my mum.

This International Women’s Day, we want to celebrate the women who impact change through small, everyday acts of courage that reshape the world. These are the women who challenge norms in their homes, workplaces, and communities, often without anyone even noticing. They're the young girls who push back against “how things have always been,” the encouraging older sisters, mothers, aunties and grandmas who pass down wisdom, paving the way for a more inclusive future, the coaches and teachers, who are redefining what it means to be strong, capable, and ambitious women. Recognised or not, these women are empowering the next generation to dream bigger, showing that strength comes in many forms. Their dedication and resilience inspires those around them to prove that progress happens when women are given the space to lead and thrive.

Whilst I could talk all day about the love and appreciation I have for my mother, sisters and those women close to me, I would love to speak broadly about the powerful women who shape not just me but more so the world around us today. From world leaders and activists to scientists, athletes, and artists, women continue to break barriers and redefine what is possible. Their resilience, intelligence, and courage inspire generations, proving that strength is found in compassion, determination, and vision. Whether it’s Malala Yousafzai advocating for education, Megan Rapinoe championing equality in soccer, or the countless unsung heroes in our communities, their impact is undeniable. On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate their achievements and the progress they drive, reminding us that when women thrive, our entire community flourishes.

International Women’s Day is more than just appreciating the wonderful ladies that shape our lives, it is understanding the sacrifices and hardships they endure through day to day life both for themselves and the betterment of others. Mothers, sisters, friends, grandmas, aunties or girlfriends - you name it, they’re there. They are the ones who keep us grounded and who teach us to face life's challenges with grace and courage. Their strength is undeniable, and their love brings us back to a place of comfort and safety. We honour their resilience, their unwavering support, and the countless ways they enrich our lives. Let's celebrate the incredible women who continue to inspire, nurture, and lead us with their boundless spirit. Your impact is felt far and wide, and we are forever grateful.
We invite you to see these reflections from our Captains at our Mentone Campus Library in our curated showcase for International Women's Day.
