A Moment in Prayer

Loving God,

As we journey through Lent, we recognize our deep thirst for knowledge and growth. Guide us to:

  • Seek Knowledge
  • Embrace Challenges
  • Share Generously
  • Reflect Deeply

Through this journey, may we not only quench our thirst for knowledge but also deepen our connection with You and with one another.

We ask this prayer in Jesus' name.

Amen.

Second Sunday of Lent

Gospel Reading Luke 9:28-36

Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white. And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Eli′jah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but kept awake, and they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli′jah"—not knowing what he said. As he said this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!" And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silence and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.

Summary - The Transfiguration

One day, Jesus took three of His closest disciples—Peter, James, and John—up a mountain to pray. While He was praying, something incredible happened. His face changed, and His clothes became bright and shining, almost like light. Suddenly, two great figures from the past, Moses and Elijah, appeared and started talking with Jesus about what was going to happen to Him in Jerusalem.

The disciples, who were very tired, woke up and saw this amazing sight. Peter, not knowing what to say, suggested building three shelters—one for Jesus, one for Moses, and one for Elijah—as if they could stay there forever.

But then, a cloud came down and covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to Him!" When the cloud disappeared, Jesus was standing there alone.

The disciples were left in awe. They didn’t tell anyone what they had seen—at least, not right away.

Meaning of the Passage:

This event, called the Transfiguration, showed that Jesus is more than just a teacher—He is truly God’s Son. Moses and Elijah represent the Law and the Prophets, showing that Jesus is the fulfillment of both. The voice from heaven reminds us to listen to Jesus because He is God’s chosen one.
