Goodstart Visit
On Tuesday 18th March, a group of Year 6 students visited Goodstart Kindergarten to read stories to the four year old Kindergarten students. We hope to visit both Kindergarten's throughout the year.
Religion
We have been practising for our performance of "Stations of the Cross". The Year 6 students will present this on Friday 4th April at 1:45 pm. More details to follow, keep an eye on the newsletter.
Literacy
We have finished the class novel, "A ghost in my suitcase" and have moved on to reading and studying the novel, "The Silver Donkey". This story is a moving and enchanting story set during the aftermath of war. One spring morning, in the peaceful woods of France, two sisters, Coco and Marcelle, find a soldier who has been blinded by the horrors of war. In gratitude for their kindness, the soldier shares captivating tales, each one linked to the tiny silver donkey he keeps in his pocket. As the soldier struggles to find his way home, the sisters secretly help him, learning along the way the true significance of the silver donkey – a symbol of honesty, loyalty, and courage. Students will engage in novel studies throughout the year that focus on vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and spelling, all closely connected to our class texts. Each student will have their own copy of the texts to read along with during class.
Maths: Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning about measuring area (using the formula length times width) and BODMAS (Brackets order, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction). Students are also revising their times tables and we will revisit these each Friday.
Inquiry: We have been looking at individuals and groups and how they have had a positive impact on Australia. For example the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Uniform:
A reminder that students need to be wearing their school uniform each day to school. Students are also not to be wearing make up, nail polish and only studs or sleeper earrings. Thank you for your support with this.
Excursion to FCJ
Yesterday we had a great day at FCJ. Our students took part in lessons in humanities, maths, PE, music and Japanese and enjoyed a sausage sizzle for lunch.
Thank you
