Caritas Australia - Project Compassion 2025

Each year during the Catholic Church season of Lent, Caritas Australia undertakes their major fundraising event for the year through Project Compassion. All donations raised are directed to Caritas Australia to support communities in need.

The theme for Project Compassion 2025 is Unite against poverty this Lent

To support Caritas Australia’s efforts through Project Compassion, St Michael’s School holds a series of Friday FUNdraising events. Students, staff and families are invited to contribute a gold coin or other monetary donation on these days. It is not compulsory to donate however this is a way to build an awareness of social justice and helping others. This also supports the idea of giving to others during the season of Lent.

This Friday, 14 March, all classes will participate in a Big Water Walk and Quiz, which has been organised by our Prep and Year 5/6 classes. All students will follow a set route throughout the school, reading water related facts they find along the way and these will assist in the Water Quiz. The class that has the most correct answers will earn a special class celebration. A tally of the laps walked by each class will be kept. Each lap is 560m and it is hoped we will reach a school total of at least 5 kms.

The other school fundraising events planned for the coming weeks are:

  • Year 3/4s traditional Vietnamese paper flower making
  • Year 1/2s weaving placemats for classroom prayer tables

Details of these events will be included in upcoming newsletters.

Each Friday FUNdraising event reflects the community the students are learning about for Project Compassion.

The Big Water Walk is related to Toefuata’iga from Samoa and how her community is greatly impacted by lack of access to a clean and reliable water source.

Pope Francis' Prayer Intention for March

Every year, Pope Francis publishes his prayer intentions for each month. Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray this prayer. Thank you.

For families in crisis

Let us pray that broken families might discover the cure for their wounds through forgiveness, rediscovering each other's gifts, even in their differences.  Amen

Please remember Pope Francis in your prayers
