Sexual Health Victoria – Session 1

On the 18th of January, Kardie from Sexual Health Victoria came to give the first weekly presentation to students.

Kardie discussed themes of respect, consent, mutuality and communication as being key features of health interpersonal relationships. Kardie helped students to identify what makes a relationship unhealthy and provides help seeking pathways.

  • Identify the factors which make for healthy and respectful relationships.
  • Examine the laws surrounding young people and sex.
  • Clarify the issues surrounding consent.
  • Develop strategies for giving and receiving consent.
  • Discuss sexual decision making.

Sexual Health Victoria – Session 2

On the 25th of February, Plenty River College welcomed back Kardie from Sexual Health Victoria for the second session of the year for an engaging and informative presentation on consent. Students explored key topics such as how to ask for and give consent for sexual acts, the legal age of consent, and when consent is valid. Kardie also discussed appropriate conversations around sex, consent laws, and responded to some questions around laws and sex work.

A major focus was on the legalities of sexting and sharing explicit images, as well as the importance of enthusiastic consent—highlighting that coercion, pressure, force, or threats are never acceptable. Through real-life scenarios and Progressive Consent videos, students gained a deeper understanding of healthy and respectful relationships.
