                  ST PATRICK'S DAY

On Monday the 17th of March, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day to honour our school’s patron saint, St. Patrick. As the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick played a significant role in spreading Christianity throughout Ireland, inspiring generations of faithful leaders, including the Brigidine Sisters, who were deeply influenced by his teachings.

The Brigidine Order of nuns, founded in Ireland in the spirit of St. Brigid and inspired by the mission of St. Patrick, carried his legacy of faith and education to Australia. In the late 19th century, they travelled from Ireland to establish schools, bringing with them a commitment to learning, compassion, and Christian values. Their dedication helped shape Catholic education in Australia, including schools like ours, where St. Patrick’s teachings continue to guide us today.

It was way back in 1904 that St Patrick's School commenced operation when the Brigidine Order arrived in Mentone.   Much has changed since but the main building with its statue of St Patrick proudly on display is still recognisable.

We gathered in that building on Monday afternoon for a liturgy to give thanks for our patron Saint who is remembered for his faith, dedication, and kindness. His legacy of teaching and service inspires our school community to live with faith, compassion, and perseverance.

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day helps us to learn more about his life and the values he stood for. It is also a time to appreciate Irish culture and traditions, which are an important part of our school’s identity. Through activities such as prayers, stories, music, and festivities, we come together as a school to reflect on St. Patrick’s teachings and strengthen our sense of community. Tomorrow’s Festival will certainly continue the joyous celebration!

By celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, we not only honour St Patrick’s work in Ireland but also recognize how his influence reached far beyond, inspiring the Brigidine Sisters and the Catholic education system that continues to support and nurture our students today.  We are inspired by St Patrick's lorica and proudly wear the words he inspired “Christ in the Heart of All.”
