Year 5/6 Learning Reflection

This week during Maths students continued their work about the order of operations to solve number problems. They used calculators to double check and compare and confirm their calculations.

As part of the Grade 6 SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) lessons, students have been

learning about 'stressors' in different locations and how to use different strategies to help calm them down or problem solve.

During our Literacy block, students continue to read daily with a buddy to develop their fluency and understanding. Some students in 6B were even brave enough to volunteer to read the serial read to the whole class.

Some of our Grade 6 leaders had the exciting opportunity to go to Sunshine College as part of International Women's Day recently. They were able to meet and listen to women in leadership roles such as Sarah Connolly, a local member of parliament share her experiences.

This week the Grade 5/6 students took part in a workshop with the Project Rockit team. They taught the students about social leadership, strength and exploring their individual capabilities to take positive action on causes and issues that are important to them.

As part of our Harmony Week celebrations it was awesome to see the students wearing their cultural clothing and having parents and families visit our classrooms so we could eat together.

And we ended the week with our fabulous Harmony Block Party. The evening was a great success and the students should be very proud of themselves. They displayed persistence, courage, collaboration and awesome dance moves. A massive 'thank you' to Miss Jasmine and the Specialist team for creating such a well organised and fun evening!
