Prep Learning Reflection

Hi Prep Families!

This fortnight in Prep, our students have continued with their learning and have had a wonderful time sharing, learning and celebrating our diversity as part of Harmony Day.

In our Core Literacy, we've begun Unit 3 of SoundsWrite which introduces the sounds for b, c, g and h.

Students should have had their Decodable Reader books in their school bags and the books will be updated to different units when they have the opportunity to read with their classroom teacher during class. Please keep up your daily routines of reading with your children at home in the evening for them to practise blending the sounds to read the words!

Remember to keep these reader bags in the student's school bags so that they can be read in class as well, as so that they are ready to be swapped for new books each week.

In Numeracy, we've been learning to count up to 16 and with the help of 'Direction Duck' we've been "writing numbers perfectly" up to 6!

We've also continued our learning about time, shape and position. We've learnt about rectangles and squares, and have been sorting they days of the week into 'weekdays' and 'weekend days'.

In SEL (Social Emotional Learning), we've been building our emotional regulation strategies and doing activities which help us recognise and name our feelings and the feelings of others through body language.

Harmony Day

Thank you so much to the families that were about to make it to the cultural picnic on Thursday and for helping your children embrace and celebrate their culture with their cultural dress.

Even thought we didn't get to enjoy the open space of the oval like we usually do, it was an incredible time being about to share food and stories with you around the school.

On Friday, the Preps did an amazing job at the block party! Their dancing and singing was fantastic and they showed so much courage being up in front of the whole community. I'm sure were as proud of them as we were!

Thank you all for attending as well, and for helping to continue the success and power of such an important event in the Sunny Heights calendar!

Hallway Routines

In the mornings before the bell, and at the end of the day before the final bell, please don't use the classroom hallways.

Students and parents are to walk to the line up area via the paths around the main building.

Similarly during afterschool pickups, please wait for the students in the line up area. Your children will walk to this area with their teacher after the bell to be dropped to you.

Once you are with your child, you are more than welcome to come into the building for them to show you their work that is on display in the hallways!

This manages congestion and ensures the students can walk safely to their drop off points. It also supports the students to be focused on their classroom tasks before the end of the day, and supports educators in the preparations of their students arrival. If you need to speak with your child’s classroom teacher, they are available after the final school bell, or additional meetings can be organised by email via the front office.

Accidents Hapen!

Just a quick reminder to make sure that all students have a change of clothes (underwear, socks, shorts/pants, shirt) and a plastic bag in their school bags.

Sunsmart!

Most of our Preps have been doing an amazing job of wearing their hats, which is fantastic! Coloured brim hats are available for purchase at the front office. They are compulsory during Term 1 and Term 4 during outside play! Please make sure your child has one to ensure they are safe from UV and get the opportunity to play freely in the yard during their play times!

Please also make sure that their names are clearly labelled in permanent marker on the hats to give them the best chance to be returned if they're left outside.
