Our last round of interschool sport will be on March 28th at St.Paul's primary. Parents are more than welcome to attend as long as they sign into the school. Cricket students however will be playing at home.

Students have been learning Badminton over the last few weeks and it's been really great to see a lot of students who have never played or heard of the sport to have a red hot go!

Cross Country trials are coming up for the 4-6 students and I hope all students are keeping up on their fitness. There will be a whole school beep test coming up in the next few weeks at lunch time, so be prepared!

Sunshine Magic basketball club are looking for players boys and girls to join their club. If you're interested please visit sunshinemagic.com.au for details. Club registration is free for the upcoming winter season.

Spanish

¡Hola Amigos!

My name is Patricia and I am the new Spanish teacher.

I moved here from Spain in October 2024.

In Spain, I worked in Special Education for 6 years.

I am very excited to be teaching at Sunshine Heights and cannot wait to meet you all!

STEM

What a busy few weeks in STEM! Students in Prep - Grade 2 have planted a pea seed and have been observing it's features as it grows! They have made predictions about what their plant would look like the following week and then comparing their predictions with their observations!

Students in Grade 3 and 4 have been learning about life cycles. We have been learning how to make a scientific diagram to share information with an audience. A reminder that the Grade 3 and 4 excursion to the Melbourne Museum is on Friday 28th March. Please ensure permission and payment have been provided by Friday 21st March.

Students in Grade 5 and 6 have been learning about a range of behavioural adaptations including murmuration, echolocation and have planned a trip to Melbourne Zoo to only see nocturnal animals!

Visual Arts

Last Friday night, we celebrated our Harmony Block Party with the exciting reveal of our stunning student-created mural! Our students worked incredibly hard on this project, and it was wonderful to see so many of them proudly taking photos in front of their artwork—creating memories they will cherish for years to come. For those who haven’t seen it yet, the mural will remain on display around the school, so be sure to stop by and take a look (or snap a photo!).

Harmony Day was a fantastic celebration of our diverse and supportive community. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and joined us in making it such a special event!

Our Preps, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students have been working on special art pieces inspired by renowned Australian artist and fashion designer Jenny Kee. As part of their learning, they explored her vibrant artistic style and her deep connection to Australia’s unique environment.

Students also learned about collaboration in art, just as Jenny has done throughout her career. Working in pairs, they embraced abstract techniques and creativity to produce stunning pieces. Their hard work and teamwork truly shine through in their final artworks, we can’t wait to showcase their amazing creations!

Students from Grades 1 to 6 have been honing their skills in quilling, a fascinating paper craft that involves rolling, twisting, and shaping thin strips of paper to create intricate designs. It has been wonderful to see their creativity flourish as they transform simple paper curls into beautiful artwork.. Each student has embraced the challenge, adding their own unique touches to their pieces, making their work truly special. We are so proud of their dedication and artistic growth!

PARENTS & CARERS are you an artist in anyway?

I know many parents in our community are amazing artists and I would love the opportunity for you to get involved in art classes within the school and collaborate to develop some amazing authentic, inspiring art with the students.

You could be an artist and or have a specific skill in an area of art for example, a florist, a builder, a painter, a sewer...the list goes on and on.

Please contact me if you have time and would love to collaborate on an art project with myself and the students.

Thank you

Lauren
