David's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,
We've whooshed through the term and found ourselves already at the end of week 8. Harmony Day/Week is a special event for a number of reasons. It marks the culmination of a huge amount of dedication from our students, staff, parents and especially Miss Jasmine! We get to make a clear stand that says, no matter what your cultural, linguistic or social background, no matter your religion or personal beliefs, no matter your political stance or family make up, all are welcome here. We also get to experience other cultures in a way that helps break down barriers, as we explore foods, cultural clothing, dance and art. My personal favourite was finding out more about Henna and haivng my very own design created by Avrille and Misha, our mums who grabbed all the help they could as they provided a tattoo to hundreds of students and family members!
As well as thanking the amazing contributions of Miss Jasmine for creating the student performances, we have to also thank the high school students for their musicality and support for the event. I loved their singing and it is great to see how these skills can develop over the years. All our other performers were amazing, and whether you boogied to the Bollywood Dancers or were wowed by the Martial Arts, there was a little something for everybody.
Miss Lauren has firmly established her place leading Visual Art within our community, with the beautiful mural that all our students and staff worked together to create. The feathers came together to represent the wings our community has when we celebrate our diversity and reach for the stars. I also loved the sentiment that I shared with you all - we are all the same but different too, and that is what makes us so special. Thanks Miss Lauren, we can't wait to see the final mural when we set it in a permanent place.
To each of our families, thanks for coming to share this special day with us. If you didn't get a chance to complete a postcard giving us feedback for our school review, these can now be found in the school office. The questions are in a gallery below, so please have a think about what you would like our school to be in the future.
Best wishes,
David and the Sunny Heights Team
