Principal's Message

As we come to the end of Term 2, I want to take a moment to thank our amazing students, staff, and families for another productive and vibrant term at Tarrawanna Public School.
Today we were proud to finish the term with Gumaraa cultural workshops, a wonderful way to celebrate NAIDOC Week and the rich culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s NAIDOC theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” reminds us of the powerful role our young people play in shaping a more inclusive and respectful future.
This theme has been deeply reflected in our school’s journey this term. We held our first Yarn-Up with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, launched weekly cultural workshops with Gadhungal Marring, and continued our work on our draft Reconciliation Action Plan, which outlines the practical steps we are taking to embed culture, voice and history in every part of our school.
Term 2 also saw incredible growth in our enrichment and leadership programs. From the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee, WriteOn writing workshops, and our debut in the NSW Premier’s Debating Challenge—to STEM excursions and a Space Discovery Program—our students have embraced challenge and opportunity across so many areas.
We also proudly reintroduced our school house system—Broker, Keira and Ouseley—bringing colour, camaraderie and plenty of cheering to our Athletics Carnival, held onsite for the first time.
A huge congratulations to Keira for winning the inaugural Athletics Carnival House Shield with an impressive 632 points—closely followed by Broker on 629 and Ouseley on 569. House points continue to be awarded across sport, leadership and enrichment, with a special award to be presented at the Tarrawanna Spectacular in Term 4.
Looking ahead, Term 3 will see all students engaging in our whole-school inquiry learning focus, culminating in our Open Classroom Showcase on Thursday 25 September. This will be a fantastic opportunity for families to visit classrooms and see the rich learning and thinking taking place across the school.
Thank you to our dedicated teachers, support staff, and office team for their incredible work, and to our families for your continued trust and support. Most of all—thank you to our students for your effort, enthusiasm and kindness this term. You make Tarrawanna the school it is.
Wishing all of our families a safe, relaxing and well-deserved holiday. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday 22 July for the start of Term 3.
Warm regards,
Chris Hopkins
