Performing Arts

This term, students from Prep to Grade 6 have been learning to read musical notation and apply these skills through practising and performing songs.
Foundation students have enjoyed learning some elements of music such as dynamics, pitch and tempo. Through movement and play, students have used their bodies to express how these changes might influence the mood or story of a piece of music.
Grade 1 and 2 students have been showing off their amazing rhythm (and swag) learning beat values and playing percussion instruments. Through learning to play Steve’s Lava Chicken from The Minecraft Movie, they have been exposed to a range of percussion instruments and are learning to play a part in an ensemble.
Grade 3 and 4 students have been learning to read and play musical notes through learning the recorder. They have been learning how pitch and beat can be assembled into recognisable tunes.
Grade 5 and 6 students have been learning to play Headwig’s Theme, from Harry Potter on the Glockenspiel. They have learned about ‘key’ to decode sheet music and practiced playing in small performance groups.
We look forward to sharing our musical talents with you at the fete later in the year!
