Student Voice & Leadership

Student Leadership Day
On Friday 20th June, over 150 student leaders from across our school and local primary schools came together for an incredible day of connection and hands-on leadership development.
Students from Bellaire Primary School, Belmont Primary School and Roslyn Primary School joined our own student leaders for a series of interactive, play-based challenges designed to build relationships, support wellbeing, and bring our school values of Respect, Opportunity and Resilience to life.
A highlight of the day was the involvement of The School of Play, who ran two powerful and engaging workshops. “Next Generation Leadership” helped students explore values-based leadership and planning with purpose, while the “FunShop” focused on creativity, wellbeing and inclusion — all through the power of play.
Later, students teamed up across year levels to take on a hands-on Team Building Challenge, using their problem-solving and communication skills to construct the tallest straw tower. The room was buzzing with energy, teamwork and laughter — a true display of authentic leadership in action.
It was a day full of energy, enthusiasm and meaningful moments. Many students spoke about how much they enjoyed the chance to connect with others, build their confidence, and learn practical leadership skills they can use every day.
We’re so proud of all the students who took part and grateful to the staff and facilitators who helped make the day such a success.

Geelong Youth Council – 2025 Geelong Youth Awards
Celebrating young people making a difference across greater Geelong
Lacey Young of 8 Gold is a Geelong Youth Council Advisory Committee member. On June 18th, Lacey was joined by Adam and Titit from the Geelong Youth Community Engagement team to provide an opportunity for BHS students to nominate a peer for the 2025 Geelong Youth Awards.
The Geelong Youth Awards aim to recognise and celebrate young people who have made and/or are currently making significant contributions in the areas of leadership, innovation, cultural awareness, community work, sport, arts, music and youth development.
Whether they're leading in their communities, driving social change, expressing themselves through creativity, or showing resilience in the face of adversity, the Geelong Youth Awards celebrate the passion, courage, and achievements of young people across our region.
The awards are open to young people aged between 12 and 25 years old who live, work, learn and play in the City of Greater Geelong. In addition, a Volunteer Award is open to people of all ages who contribute their time and energy to support young people in our community.

More opportunities for youth – Youth Hubs
Geelong Youth organise youth hubs all over the region where young people can hang out after school. The drop-in programs offer a bunch of fun activities like cooking, arts and crafts, board and video games, personal development, and social time with friends in a safe and supportive environment.
All youth hubs are free to attend and light snacks are provided. The hubs are open during school terms only. Check out more details for how you can get involved via the link below.
