Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers and Students

As we near the end of a productive and eventful Term 2, it’s a perfect opportunity to reflect on the learning, achievements and activities that have enriched our school community in recent weeks.

A sincere thank you to all students and staff who contributed to the successful completion of our Semester 1 examinations. Across Years 9 to 11, students demonstrated resilience, organisation and a genuine commitment to doing their best. I would like to extend my gratitude to Rochelle Dickson for her outstanding oversight of the exam program, to Nephish Gunawardena for her expert scheduling and coordination, and to Lina Mansour and our support staff for their vital work in printing and preparing materials. Our teaching and education support staff once again showed great professionalism in supervising and setting up exams, reflecting our strong culture of shared responsibility.

On Tuesday 17 June, students undertaking Unit 3 and 4 subjects participated in the General Achievement Test (GAT), navigating the dual sessions with calm and maturity. It was a smooth and well-managed day, and I commend the students for their focused approach.

Earlier in the term, our Year 7 Women in History Expo brought history to life in the most creative and engaging way. Students presented their research through thoughtful displays and interactive exhibits, many dressed as iconic women from the past. Thank you to the 7ALL team for their commitment and passion. This event showcased our values of creativity, achievement, and empowerment in action.

We also celebrated a standout athletic performance: Cassie Servadei of Year 9 took first place in the U16 4km at the 2025 Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships. As State Champion, she will now progress to Nationals. Congratulations, Cassie — an outstanding example of persistence and personal best.

Languages Week was full of fun and cultural learning, with highlights including the very popular crepe van. Events like this encourage our students to think beyond their own experiences and engage with the richness of global perspectives, embracing respect and inclusivity.

The Big Freeze fundraising event on Friday 27 June was a heart-warming way to bring our school community together for a good cause. Students and staff alike wore their Big Freeze gear and showed support for Fight MND. A huge thank you to the brave teachers who participated and to the SRC for organising such a meaningful lunchtime event. These moments strengthen the ties that bind us and reinforce our commitment to community care.

This week we are proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week, acknowledging the 2025 theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.” This theme reminds us of the important role of young people in shaping a just and inclusive future and recognises the enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Staff have received resources to support classroom discussions and marked NAIDOC Week at our College Assembly with student performances and a special guest.

The annual Careers Expo is a valuable opportunity for students in Years 8 to 11 to explore future pathways and engage with tertiary providers and MGSC staff. This event is a true collaboration, and I thank  Jenny Connolly, Hayley Dureau, Jackie Mathews, Fiona Faulkes, Jane Garrow and Carol Duggan for their leadership, organisation and support. Helping our students make informed choices is a central part of our role, and this event supports their empowerment and future planning.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge Taylah McConachy, who will continue in her role as Year 10 Student Manager for the remainder of the year. Taylah brings positivity, structure and a student-centred focus to the role, and we are grateful for her ongoing leadership.

As we prepare for the holidays, I encourage students to tidy lockers and finish the term well. Let’s all take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come in just two short terms. I remain so proud of our school community and the way we live our values every day.

Warm regards

Linda Brown
