VCE VM

Over the past few weeks, the VCE VM cohort has been buzzing with energy, creativity, and collaboration as students have stepped up to take the lead in organising and running a range of leadership activities for their classmates. These activities were designed to develop and foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork as they prepare for their upcoming community project in Term 3.

From creating human knots to developing escape rooms, the students were able to develop, run and evaluate their leadership activities and the activities of their peers. Some of the year 12 students developing cooking lessons to share their culinary skills alongside their leadership qualities. The students should be incredibly proud of what they have been able to produce and look forward to seeing even more exciting initiatives as the year continues.

From June 10 – June 16, the Year 11 VCE Vocational Major (VM) students engaged in their first block of Structured Workplace Learning. We had a wide range of different industries covered from Early Childhood to Youth Services to IT and Marketing. All students were able to successfully organise their Structured Work Placement further building on their professional communication skills and stepping outside of their comfort zones to explore possible career pathways, after completing their VCE VM certificate in 2026.

Structure Workplace Learning

Here are some testimonials from some of our students on their experiences on their Structure Workplace Learning opportunities:

“Work experience at Kingston Youth was such a fun week! We visited other Secondary schools in the area and played UNO with the students, which was a great way to connect and have a laugh. We learnt how to make badges and pack mental health cards, which was pretty cool. We also went shopping and bought heaps of toys for an upcoming lucky dip – Hope the kids enjoy them! Overall, it was hands-on week and a fun way to learn what youth work is all about firsthand”

“I went to Buckets Early Childcare Centre for a week and learnt a lot of crucial skills required for looking after 2–3-year-olds. This included what to do if things can get out of hand, it is really important to be adaptable, it also allowed me to work on being more patient. Being in this environment made me develop a lot of independence and responsibility, something I look forward to applying back at school and in my future career pathway.”

I completed my Structured Placement work at a primary school, within their IT department. I had a lot of fun. I learn a lot of new skills and definitely developed my understanding on the IT industry, which is the industry I want further pursue as my career pathway. It was a great experience and I would definitely recommend for any upcoming Year 10 Who want to learn about the workplace environment.
