Principal's Report
Michelle Hill
Dear Parents and Carers,
There's only a week to go of Term 2! It has been a long 11-week term, and it's obvious that our students (and teachers) ready for a well earned rest.
Tickets for Peter Pan go on sale on Tuesday 1st July at 10am. I will send out an email on Monday with full details about ticket sales but set your alarms for 10am Tuesday if you want the best seats in the house.
Full details will be released closer to the time but there are a few big things happening early in Term 3 that you might want to start preparing for, especially as a few of them involve costumes.
Grandparents' Day Friday 25th July (details below)
100 Days of Prep Friday 1st August
Peter Pan Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th August
Book Week Parade Friday August 22nd
We're celebrating Grandparents' Day on July 25th, the first Friday of Term 3. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30am, followed by time in the classrooms and a morning tea in the hall. We will be opening up the Thomas Sherry playground for parking that morning. We ask that you book via the QR code for catering purposes.
Our mid-year reports will be made available to families on Wednesday July 2nd. The teachers have put a lot of time into these reports, ensuring that they accurately reflect each student's achievements so far this year. Many of you have had communication and/or meetings with teachers in recent weeks, so there shouldn't be any surprises in your child's report. If you do have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher in the first instance to seek clarification. Thank you to Callum Mills who has coordinated the report process this semester.
I'm excited to announce that we now have more than 50 parents indicate that they are attending our emotional regulation parent evening in the school hall next Tuesday 1st of July from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. You may still sign up to join us through the link on the Deputy page of this newsletter (next page).
Just a reminder that the children may wear their Peter Pan T-shirt to school this Friday and next Friday. They may be worn with PE uniform, preferably with a dark coloured long-sleeved top underneath for warmth.
Some great news from our literacy program this week. The mid-year progress monitoring indicates that our students are performing exceptionally well at this time of year, which we attribute to the current instructional methods associated with the InitialLit program. Our Prep teachers in particular have been delighted by the progress that our students are making with their reading and writing skills at this point in the year.
There's only a week to go until the disco and it is shaping up to be a great way to finish off the term.
We've had a lot of support from our families and the community with the catering this year. Thank you to Peter Bouchier Butchers (Gill Family), Tasty One (Santalucia Family) and Baker's Delight Bentleigh for providing the yummy dinner for our disco goers.
In my last newsletter I omitted one of our sponsors of the recent Dads and Kids' Camp. Thank you to the Azzopardi family whose business Freddy made a contribution to the camp as well (https://www.freddystore.com.au/)
As I've mentioned before we offer a variety of lunchtime clubs at St Finbar's. Dance Time takes place each Thursday for our Prep to Year 2 students. Today, parents were invited along to watch the results of their term's work, and I was lucky enough to attend as well. The girls' energy and enthusiasm were obvious as they showed off their dance skills.
Our Teddy Bear sleepovers have taken place over the past week. This annual initiative always ties in with our St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Thank you to our librarian Narelle for coordinating this once again, and to her team of helpers for their assistance.
