From the Classroom

News from The Seniors
In English, students have been busy planning and writing creative hybrid animal stories—imaginative tales that blend narrative with fascinating facts about their creature’s features and environment. We can’t wait to read the finished books!
In Maths, students have explored transformations and tessellations, revising translations, rotations, reflections, and enlargements through hands-on activities. They’ve also been building confidence with the four operations, including decimals and fractions.
Science projects are well underway, with students researching natural disasters in pairs. They’ve investigated where and how these events occurred, their effects, and the emergency responses. Next week, they'll create a model of their disaster and present their findings to the class.
Our Melbourne Zoo excursion was a highlight! Students were so excited to see the animals and captivated by the education session on adaptations. It was a fantastic day of learning and fun—check out some snapshots from the day below!
We were also lucky to be part of Book Bash, a special event run by State Library Victoria, where authors were streamed live into our classroom for daily writing workshops. On Tuesday, we heard from Australian writing legend Anh Do (WeirDo, Smarty Pup, Ninja Kid, Wolf Girl) as he shared how he comes up with ideas for storylines and characters. After the session, students designed their own characters with a special power or talent.
On Wednesday, we heard from popular Australian author Sally Rippin (Billie B Brown, School of Monsters, Hey Jack). She spoke about where she gets her ideas and explained that getting started is often the hardest part. Sally shared helpful tips to overcome that challenge. She also demonstrated how to draw characters, reminding students that the first sketch isn’t always the final version. Students followed along in class and created their own drawings.
Middle School News
In English, Middle A have started reading and researching about Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre. They have been investigating the flora and fauna that live in that area and why it is such an important part of the Australian landscape. Students will be writing persuasive texts on why we need to look after this special place.
Middle B have been looking at the hybrid text 'The Great White Shark' and discovering some interesting facts about the Great White Shark.
In Numeracy, Middle A have been studying multiplication and division as well as beginning a topic on algebraic thinking. Students will work on finding unknown values in mathematical sums, find and create number patterns and answer inverse operational questions.
Middl B have been looking at partioning numbers as a addition and subtraction strategy. We have also been measuring length using centimetres and metres. Students also enjoyed listening to Sally Rippon and Anh Do (see Seniors report), creating book characters.
In Inquiry, Middle A students have really enjoyed working on their country projects. Students have been researching about clothing, food, hobbies and sports from their chosen country and have been creating wonderful posters.
Middle B have also done a fantastic job of their posters about their chosen Australian place.
We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday break!
Juniors Tell All
It has been such a fantastic term in the Junior Unit! Each week, we have seen everyone engaged in their learning and giving their personal best.
In English, Junior B have been learning different forms of punctuation, and after learning about full stops, commas and exclamation marks, they played a fun game of 'Rob the Nest: Literacy Edition' where they had to work in teams to complete different sentences with the correct punctuation. We had so much fun and consolidated our learning!
Our Inquiry projects are well underway and we can't wait for everyone to see all of our hard work! We have made and painted our clay animals and are creating their habitats this week. Our Inquiry Expo will be next Monday, 30th June at 3pm.
Performing Arts
It has been another great term in the Performing Arts room! It has been fantastic to see our students become amazing musicians.
We have been exploring rhythm and beat across all year levels this term. Our Juniors and Middle school had a wonderful time using the rainbow parachute to sing along to different songs and follow beat.
Last week, we were so lucky to have our work experience student, Alisha with us! Alisha is an amazing musician who supported our Music learning and did an amazing performing of A Million Dreams on the cello!
Middle A and the Seniors have been learning the ukulele. Students have been giving their personal best each week while they have been learning chords C and A minor. The Seniors have also been using bucket drums and the Glockenspiel to learn the beat and riff to Seven Nation Army, they have been so awesome at picking up this new learning!
