Personal Safety Sessions

Each year we have been running KidROAR sessions with the children in the 4 year old program and also educator sessions. This year we are extending our program to include children in the 3 year old group and also will be offering sessions for parents and carers. 

 

What is KidsROAR 

The KidsROAR Personal Safety and child abuse prevention programs provide tools and strategies that empower children to help reduce their vulnerability to abuse, neglect, and unsafe situations. The program also provides education sessions for educators and families. 

The main themes of the program are:-  

  • We all have the right to feel safe at all times and
  • We can talk to someone we trust about anything, no matter what it is

The KidsROAR parents and carers education session is being run online for our Kindergarten families on THURSDAY JULY 31st @ 8.00pm.  The session in 1hour and information includes:

  • implementing protective behaviours in the home
  • statistics on abuse
  • information on offenders and the grooming process
  • what their children will learn in a KidsROAR session
  • recommended further reading. It is crucial to ensure that all children and adults have the skills required to protect their own personal safety.

The children's sessions at Kindergarten  are structured so children develop life skills to empower them if faced with unsafe situations, including potential child abuse. The ‘Little Paws, Big ROARS’ program runs for 45 minutes for children in which they learn to:

  • know that we all have the right to feel safe at all times
  • recognise safe and unsafe feelings
  • understand that their bodies belong to them
  • identify and act upon early warning signs
  • use correct anatomical names of the private parts of their bodies
  • identify and deal with inappropriate or “unsafe” touches

  • identify trusted adults they should “tell” if they are feeling worried or unsafe.
