ALTERNATE SEATING

At Borinya we offer alternative seating options in all classrooms as we understand this can significantly benefit students by increasing focus, engagement, and physical well-being. Seating options available include, wobble chairs (sometimes known as Hokki Stools) rocking chairs, adjustable office chairs, stability cushions for seats, floor cushions, standing desks, built in window seats and diner style booth and the use of Theraband around chair or table legs. This allows our students to find a comfortable and dynamic position in the room that suits their individual needs and learning styles.

Offering seating options like wobble chairs and standing desks can help students central nervous systems need to fidget or move to concentrate, leading to increased engagement with attention and learning. Flexible seating encourages movement, which can improve blood flow and oxygen to the brain, combating the negative effects of prolonged sitting.

When students feel comfortable and supported, they are more likely to be engaged and less likely to exhibit disruptive behaviors. Alternative seating options can be tailored to meet the specific physical and learning needs of individual students, including those with sensory processing differences.

By offering a range of seating options, educators can create a more comfortable, engaging, and supportive learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of their students.
