📽️ Embrace Kids: A Powerful Documentary for Families to Watch Together

Embrace Kids is a powerful documentary about children, for children and featuring children from body positivity champion Taryn Brumfitt. Full of child-friendly and often funny messages about being yourself and loving your body, this movie helps children learn how to say no to body-shaming, bullying and stereotypes in the media, designed for children aged 9–14, rated G.

It explores themes of body image, self-acceptance, kindness, media influence, and resilience—offering real stories and empowering messages that support healthy self-esteem and emotional wellbeing.

Our Year 6 students have been viewing Embrace Kids this term and engaging in rich classroom learning experiences to explore its themes. They’ve been reflecting on body positivity, celebrating what makes them unique, and discussing how we can all contribute to a culture of inclusion and respect.

We strongly encourage all Year 5 and 6 families to watch Embrace Kids together at home. It’s a wonderful opportunity to continue these conversations beyond the classroom and support your child in developing confidence, empathy, and a strong sense of self.

You can access Embrace Kids via Stan or Apple TV.

📚 Picture Book Recommendation: Embrace Your Body by Taryn Brumfitt

This week, I'm excited to recommend a beautiful and empowering picture storybook that supports our focus on body positivity and self-love: Embrace Your Body by Taryn Brumfitt.

With bright, joyful illustrations and simple, affirming language, Embrace Your Body helps children:

  • Appreciate their bodies for their strength, movement, and uniqueness

  • Build a positive self-image from an early age

  • Understand that every body is different and that’s something to celebrate!

It’s a fantastic read to spark meaningful conversations about self-worth, confidence, and kindness.

I have a copy in the Prep W classroom along with a range of Social/Emotional picture story books. Please stop by if you would like to take a look or borrow a copy!
