Tatsuya Tanaka – Miniature Life
For the final project of the term the Grade 5/6 students continued their studies into photography and learned about Japanese photographer Tatsuya Tanaka and his miniature scenes. Tatsuya playfully recreates everyday life scenes by using common household objects, such as rolls of toilet paper, sugar cubes, fruit and vegetables, with miniature figurines he has collected over the years.
Inspired by his book ‘Small Wonders’ and his calendars, the students first designed their own scenes, deciding which common objects they would use. Many students brought things from home and with the use of the miniature people and other art room resources they were able to recreate these amazing scenes, including train stations, a rocket, diving pools, an art studio, a restaurant, the Gold Rush and more:

The Foundation students have also had a fantastic Term 2, with the focus on construction their last project was to build a paper bag house.
The students had fun designing their houses with a theme eg footy colours, candy houses then adding doors, windows and chimneys with paper, buttons and pom poms.
They were very excited when their houses were puffed up and attached to land where they could add trees, flowers and cars. Great job Foundation!
