Principal's Message

Mr Adam Beilken

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and School Community,

The term and semester have certainly gone by very quickly. I have been impressed with the teaching and learning occurring in classrooms and have recently seen some wonderful examples of students work as they come into the office to share.

This Friday 27 June will be my last day for the term as I am taking Long Service Leave. I will be taking the last week of Term 2 and first week of Term 3 as leave to travel to Darwin with my family. I hope that you all have a fantastic end to the term and that everyone remains safe during the holidays. I look forward to seeing everyone when I return to Marangaroo on Monday 28 July.

2026 Enrolments

School enrolments for Kindergarten placements in 2026 are now open. If you or someone you know have a child that turns 4 before 30 June 2026, please come into the office and get an enrolment pack.

Children in Kindergarten that are currently enrolled at Marangaroo will receive enrolment packs at the end of this term for enrolment in Pre-Primary.

Public School Review – 1 Year Return

We are pleased to share some positive news from our recent 1-Year return Public School Review (PSR), which followed up on the recommendations made during our full review in 2024.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, Marangaroo Primary School was able to show significant progress. We achieved sustained improvement across 8 of the 19 identified areas, and fully addressed both recommendations in the Learning Environment domain. This means those areas will no longer be a focus in our next review.

The review team was impressed by the growth already made and recognised that, with more time to embed recent changes, we are well positioned to address even more areas moving forward.

In preparation for our next review in 2026, we will continue to focus on:

  • Creating our next School Business Plan (2026–2028)
  • Strengthening our Literacy and Numeracy programs
  • Continuing whole-school approaches, such as UFLI in K–2 and Word Origins in Years 3–6
  • Updating our school Vision Statement and Values
  • Embedding high-impact teaching strategies
  • Using data to track progress and improve outcomes for all students
  • Ensuring school resources are aligned with our goals

The reviewers, Maxine Augustson (Director, PSR) and Rebecca Burns (Peer Reviewer), shared their congratulations on the clear improvements made in a short time and acknowledged the commitment of our whole staff to our improvement journey.

We are proud of how far we've come and look forward to continuing this journey with your support, always working together to provide the best possible learning environment for your children.

PEAC

All Year 4 students will take the PEAC test to determine their suitability for the PEAC program. A flyer went home today with all students in Year 4. Please take the time to read the flyer. Testing at Marangaroo Primary will occur on Monday 4 August.

What is PEAC?

The PEAC Program provides part-time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6. It offers courses designed to challenge students and develop their thinking skills.

Opt-out information:

If you do not wish for your child to participate in the PEAC test, please let the school know by emailing the school or communicating with Admin by Friday 1 August

Good Standing

Attached to this newsletter is the new Good Standing Policy that was recently reviewed and approved at the school board meeting on 17 June. Class teachers have gone through this document with the students this week. Our Good Standing Policy encourages students to take responsibility for their actions and aligns with the school’s core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Being an Achiever.

Key Points:

  • All students begin each term with Good Standing.
  • Students can lose Good Standing through serious (major) or repeated minor misbehaviours or suspension.
  • Loss of Good Standing means missing out on non-curricular activities such as excursions, special events, and leadership opportunities.
  • Students can regain Good Standing after demonstrating positive behaviour for five school days.
  • Parents are kept informed at every stage, with clear communication when Good Standing is at risk, lost, or regained.

This policy is part of our whole-school approach to behaviour, focusing on restorative practices that build empathy, encourage positive choices, and promote a supportive school community.

Before and After School

Over the past three weeks, we have noticed an increasing number of students arriving at school before 8:15am or remaining on school grounds after 3:30pm without supervision. Please be reminded that staff are not available to supervise students before or after school hours, unless they are attending an organised activity such as Running Club, Choir, or Basketball/Netball groups.

If students arrive before 8:30am, they are expected to wait, seated on the benches outside the Administration building until classrooms open. Breakfast Club is available every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday morning in the A Block wet area for students who arrive early.

In the afternoons, school gates will be locked at 3:15pm. We kindly ask that parents and carers ensure they have collected their children and exited the school grounds before this time.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe.

Meeting with Staff

At Marangaroo Primary School, we value open and respectful communication between parents and teachers. Strong partnerships between home and school play a vital role in supporting our students’ learning and wellbeing. To ensure that parent-teacher conversations are as productive and respectful as possible, we kindly ask all parents and carers to follow these simple protocols when requesting and attending meetings:

Booking Meetings

  • Appointments are essential. Teachers are not always available for unscheduled discussions, especially during class preparation at the beginning of the day, teaching time, or after school commitments. To arrange a meeting, please contact the classroom teacher directly via email, Dojo, or by leaving a message with the front office.

Meeting Times

  • Meetings can take place before or after school by prior arrangement.
  • Please be mindful that teachers may have other scheduled duties, so meetings will need to start and finish on time.

Productive and Respectful Communication

  • Meetings are most effective when they are solutions-focused, respectful, and centred on supporting the child’s learning and development.
  • If further support is needed, a member of the school leadership team can be included to help progress the conversation.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in following these protocols. They help us to ensure that all meetings are purposeful, respectful, and in the best interests of our students.
